Lufkin, Texas

Lufkin, TX is located in east Texas about 120 miles north of Houston on Route 59, 120 miles west of Shreveport, 90 miles south of Tyler on HWY 69 in the Pineywoods area. Numerous forests of loblolly pines mixed with some oak trees of various types predominate. Lufkin is the county seat of Angelina County.

Lufkin is a town of less than 40,000 but is a regional hub for retail shopping, medical facilities and more. Lufkin was recently certified by the state of Texas as an official retirement community; it has two major hospitals (Woodland Heights and Memorial Medical Center) one of which is considered one of the best for heart surgery. Crown Colony has one of the top ranked golf courses in the state of Texas. The Ellen Trout Zoo is a very progressive and impressive zoo for a small town. There are two large manufacturing facilities in Lufkin, Texas Foundries, part of the Citation Group and Lufkin Industries. Lufkin Industries is the largest producer of oil well pumping units in the country. They are also a leading producer of gear reducers and trucks of various types. The Texas Forestry Museum is also located in Lufkin. Angelina College is a two-year college located in Lufkin. The college has an auditorium, which is second to none. Lufkin High School has been one of the best high school 4A football teams in the state for the last four or five years and has tremendous support from the people of Lufkin. The Angelina County Chamber of Commerce is one of the most progressive and active chambers in the country. Angelina County has an airport suitable for small planes. Great bass fishing, water skiing or camping can be found on Lake Rayburn. With 570 miles of shoreline it is the largest reservoir completely in the state of Texas. Lufkin also has an Expo Center which has one of the largest clear span indoor facilities in the nation. It seats 7,500 for rodeos or horse shows etc. and 10,000 for concerts. The Civic Center has 16,000 sq. feet of meeting space that can be divided into 5 rooms. In short, Lufkin is a city on the move and has had great leadership for many years now.
