William Preston c1525-1585

The following information is from several sources and is certainly subject to error. Any confirmed information contradicting this data or additional information would be appreciated. Sources are "The Preston Genealogy", William Bowker Preston, published in Salt Lake 1900, some information from a web site by Stephen M. Lawson, ,also, information provided by Munson B. Hinman. The biggest difference in the various sources is ADAM. He did not show in "Preston Genealogy" by William Bowker Preston but he is shown by both Forte and Lawson. This strikes me as peculiar because I don't know of any other ADAM PRESTON. Of course, FRED isn't exactly common either !

William Preston b. c1525 d. 4-23-1585 in Yorkshire, son of George Preston b.1504 d.xxxx, married Anna Saunders b. c1509 d.xxxx . Their children were:

1. William Preston b abt 1556 d.xxxx Yorkshire.
2. Richard Preston b. abt 1557 d.xxxx Yorkshire succeeded to the estates of Valley Field and to the family title. He married and had issue:
• William Preston married Miss Webster and became successor to the title and the family estate.
3. Ellen Preston b. abt 1559 d.xxxx Yorkshire.
4. Alice Preston b. abt 1561 d.xxxx Yorkshire.
5. John Preston b. abt 1563 d.xxxx Yorkshire.
6. Adam Preston b. 1564 d.11-8-1593, Giggleswick, Yorkshire, married 6-2-1583 in Giggleswick, Yorkshire, Isabel Braithwaite b.1569 d.xxxx. Their children were:
1. Margaret Preston bap. 8-24-1583 in Giggleswick, Yorkshire.
2. Thomas Preston bap. 8-20-1585 in Giggleswick, Yorkshire.
3. Janet Preston bap. 9-1-1588 in Giggleswick, Yorkshire.
4. Katherine Preston bap. 8-13-1589 in Giggleswick, Yorkshire.
5. William Preston b.1-23-1590/1 bap. 1-28-1590/1, in Giggleswick, Yorkshire. William married first on 10-11-1613 Elizabeth Sale b. before 6-8-1590 in Chesham, Co. Bucks, Eng. She was the daughter of Edward (Searles) Sale and Elizabeth Gifford and the granddaughter of John Sale and Agnes Parker of Chesham. Elizabeth died 2-22-1633/4 in Chesham, Co. Bucks, Eng. William immigrated to Ameria 9-19-1635. William married secondly, Mary Not Seabrook in about 1634. Mary was born in 1601 and died after 1680 in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut. William died July 9, 1647. William's children by his wife Elizabeth Sale were:
• William Preston bap.10-5-1614 in Chesham, Co. Buckingham, Eng., bur.6-4-1633 in Chesham..
• John Preston b. 11-4-1619 d.11-18-1623 in Chesham.
• Edward Preston bap.11-14-1619 in Chesham died 1699 in New Haven CT. Edward emigrated to Boston in April, 1635 on the 'Christian' and moved to New Haven. In 1650 he married Margaret Hurst b.1624 d.12-20-1690. Their children:
• Elizabeth Preston married first John Leavens and second Peter Aspinwall Jr.
• William Preston.
• Mary Preston, died as infant.
• Mary Preston married Christopher Lovejoy.
• Hannah died young.
• Abigail Preston married Joseph Thomas.
• Samuel Preston married Abigail Thomas.
• Daniel Preston bap. 3-3-1621 in Chesham, died 11-12-1707 in Dorchester, Mass. married Mary (unknown)b.1620 in England and died 10-5-1695 in MA. about 1644. Their children were:
• Mary Preston b.abt 1645 married on 5-28-1662 Eleazer Fawer.
• Daniel Preston b.10-7-1649 d.3-13-1725/26. He married Abigail Jackson b.8-14-1647 d.4-24-1723. Their children:
• Mary Preston b.9-1-1675.
• John Preston married Elizabeth Barker.
• Remember Preston b.11-4-1678.
• Abigail Preston.
• Deliverance Preston.
• Elizabeth Preston b.8-15-1689 d.8-23-1689.
• Daniel Preston died young.
• Relief Preston b.xxxx d.5-5-1691.
• Daniel Preston (1693-1762) married Mary Pierce.
• John Preston b.1651 probably at Dorchester, MA. Died after 1728.
• Elizabeth Preston bap 1-18-1623 in Chesham, married Joseph Alsop and died 8-29-1693.
• Sarah Preston b. 7-18-1626/7 in Chesham, married William Meeker..
• Mary Preston b. bef. 12-13-1629 in Chesham and died Dec. 1690 in Fairfield, CT. She married Peter Mallory on 3-12-1648 in Fairfield, CT.
• John Preston b. bef.3-4-1632 in Chesham died 1687 in Boston, Mass. John married Jeane (unknown).

William immigrated to New England 9-19-1635 on the ship 'True Love'. (Two of his sons preceded him to America.)They first came to Dorchester, Mass. Son Daniel remained there but the rest of the family moved to New Haven, Connecticut.He married Mary Seabrook about 1634/5 apparently in England. Mary was the daughter of Robert Seabrook and Alice Goodspeed. Their children were:

• Hannah Preston b.abt 1637 in Dorchester, Mass. and died bef.10-21-1701 in Stratford, Conn. (One source indicates Hannah may not be a Preston ??) She married first abt 1654 Abraham Kimberley b. abt.1630 in England, son of Thomas Kimberley and Alice Awood. Abraham died bef. 3-27-1680 in Chowan, NC. Hannah married secondly John Curtis (1642-1704). Abraham's children were: (Source D. L. Jacobus)
• Hannah Kimberly b.1-11-1655/56 at New Haven, CT.
• Mary Kimberly b. 1659 at New Haven, died young.
• Mary Kimberly b. 5-4-1668 at Albemarle Province, Carolina married John Blackmon.
• Sarah Kimberly b.8-1-1672 at Albemarle Province, Carolina. She married Benjamin Hurd.
• Abraham Kimberly b.3-4-1674/5 at Albemarle, Chowan, NC. married Abigail Fitch on 5-11-1696 at Stratford. He died bef. 7-26-1727 at Newgown, CT.
• Jehiel Preston bap.6-14-1640 in New Haven, Conn. married a cousin Sarah (another source shows Dorah Fairchild) Fairchild b.2-19-1642/3 d.before 1682. Jehiel married secondly abt 1682 Temperence Nichols b.5-17-1662 in Stratford, Conn.. Jehiel died 1684 in Stratford, Conn. Jehiel and Sarah had 3 children:
• Samuel Preston b.7-1663 d.1707.
• Joseph Preston b.7-10-1666.
• Mary Preston b.xxxx d.8-1734 married Daniel Jackson.
• Hackaliah Preston bap.4-9-1643 in New Haven, Conn. and died 11-20-1692 in Woodbury, Conn. He married Emma Fairchild 4-20-1676 in Stratford. (Ancestors of Pres. Franklin Roosevelt.)
• Eliasaph Preston bap.4-9-1643 in New Haven, Conn. married first Mary Wilcoxen on 7-9-1673. Mary died 4-28-1674. Eliasaph married second about 1675 Elizabeth Beach b.3-28-1652 d.>1722 and third about 1694 Martha Bradley. Eliasaph is a twin of Haikaliah. Eliasaph died 1707.
• Joseph Preston bap.1-24-1646/7 in New Haven, Conn. He married Joanna Leek. He died 1733.
• Sarah Preston ca.1648 married Thomas Fairchild b.2-21-1645 in Stratford, CT and d.3-27-1687 in Woodbury, CT.
