I am getting a number of inquiries for help in locating Prestons. Unfortunately I can not provide much help most of the time. I am going to post inquiries on this page so that others can see them and perhaps provide some help. Also, if anyone wants to supply me with their line (PRESTONs) I will put up a page for that family. It would be nice if all the different lines could be linked, and perhaps someday most of them will. 1. Carol Olmos is looking for her great grandfather. I don't usually post info that is not searching for a Preston but in a way it is. She was under the impression her great grandfather was James Preston King of Saltville, VA. Now a cousin is saying they think the great grandfather might be John William King b.1-/25/1837 d.5/3/1907 in Saltville and buried in Elizabeth Cemetery. Carol's great grandmother was Martha CB Hubble b.8/22/1845 in Smyth Co., VA and died in Saltville on 12/18/1898. The confusing part is that her grandmother Amanda ? Belle King who married Thomas Kelly Sayers talked about being kin to the Preston who had the Salt Mill. She named one of Carol's uncles, William Preston Sayers. The John and Mary Hubble who this cousin claims are her great grandparents were all from Blacksburg, VA. Hope you are not as confused as I am. 2. Linda is looking for Obediah S. Preston b.ca.1805 in Pennsylvania. He died in Vernon Co., Wisconsin. He married in 1859 in Athens Co. Ohio to Mary L. Dewitt (Dewee?) who was born ca.1827 in Ohio and died ca. 1875 in Wisconsin ? Obediah was a carpenter and had the following children:Steven Preston b.ca.1862 Ohio, Isaac Preston b.ca.1864, and Thomas Preston b.ca.1868 in Wisconsin. Mary was first married in abt 1846 to Jorden Harris. Children of Mary and Jorden Harris are: William H. Harris b.ca1847 in Ohio, Louis D. Harris b.3-6-1848 in Athens Co., Ohio d.2-5-1912 in Dell, Vernon Co., Wisc., Rebecca Harris b.ca.1849 in Ohio. A William Alanay was also in the 1850 census in Ames Twp, Athens Co. 3. Sandy Preston Sanders is looking for information on a David Preston who married Ann Robinson. It is believed he died in the Virginia militia between 1775-1796. Ann remarried. Not much to go on but if you have any ideas please contact Sandy. Posted 4/15/2000.
4. Vern and Jean Walker are looking for information on a George Preston who married Elizabeth Garrison, dau. of William Garrison and Sarah Burns. George and Elizabeth had a daughter Elizabeth born ca. 1906 d.1955/56. This dau. Elizabeth m. George Ireland, both are buried in Springlake Heights, NJ. Any help would be appreciated. 5. June Preston Krueger is looking for information on a T. S. W. Preston who was on the Confederate Pension rolls. TSW had a son Thomas Preston who married Alma Jewel Lockett and lived in Texas. June thinks TSW is her great grandfather. Any help would be appreciated. Posted 1/30/2000.
6. Diane Carey is looking for the parents of Gilson Preston born in VA about 1763 who married Ruth Stone. Gilson had a son Lewis Preston b.ca.1788 and Lewis m. Elizabeth Griffin b.ca.1788. Lewis and Elizabeth had a son Jilson Preston b.ca.1823 in Kentucky. Jilson m. Amanda Walters b.ca.1826. Looking for parents of Gilson Preston born ca.1763. 7. Mary Preston is looking for information on a William Preston b.Dec. 1815 in Greene Co., Ohio. Believe his mother's name was Margaret born prob. in Greene Co. in 1793. Have descendants but do not know who William's parents or ancestors were. Please contact Mary with any info. Posted 11/10/99.
8. I was sure this had been posted but believe it was early Sept when I had computer problems and apparently lost it, also a picture of label... anyway, a little unusual but Paul Fleming of Drogheda, Ireland,is looking for the Preston Brothers who made an Irish whiskey called "Preston Whiskey" in Drogheda in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They are trying to resurect it for a millenium project. It is believed the Preston brothers were from the Gormanston Castle. Any information would be appreciated. Posted 11/10/99.
9. Gayle Osburn is looking for information on two Prestons that were either originally Critchett and changed their names, or, they may have been orphans brought to work on the Clark Family farm. Samuel Critchett and Lydia Clark were married in 1813 and their two sons didn't come along until the early 1830's. Their names were Nathaniel and Wingate Preston. They apparently lived in the New Ipswich, NH area. Cannot find any connection to Prestons in that area. Did they simply change their names, or were they Preston orphans. Any info appreciated. 10. Stacy Bowles Seabolt is looking for information on a Sarah Preston and William Allen Bowles. Sarah was born in Ireland in 1765, dau. of David P. Preston and Nancy Unknown. She came to America with a William Allen Bowles b.1760 in England. They were sold for passage fare and after 7 years they married and settled in what is now WVA. Sarah and William had children, Hannah Bowles, Elizabeth Bowles, David Bowles, Edmond Bowles and Jeriah Bowles. 11. Scott Preston needs help. I believe his grandfather was Bernard Preston who married Nellie ? . Bernard and Nellie had a daughter Judith Preston b.5-17-1889 who m. Frank Graham. Bernard also had a son Robert E. Preston b.8-1891 in Cooperdale, Ohio who m. Maude Leavengood. I presume Robert was Scott's father. Any help from Ohio Prestons or others appreciated. Posted 11/7/99.
12. Earl Dehus is looking for information on his grandfather. His great grandmother was Elizabeth Preston, she had a son Leonard Preston who was given up for adoption at the age of 3 to John and Emma Dehus. This took place in Ohio County, Wheeling, WV on Feb. 3, 1903. This would mean Leonard was born about 1900 and a guess would be that Elizabeth was born about 1870-1885. It was said that Elizabeth was the only parent and that she joined a convent after the adoption. If anyone has any information please contact Earl Dehus or myself. Posted 10/22/99.
13. Carolyn Blackburn King needs help with a William H. Preston b.ca.1813 possibly in Huntington, PA and married Harriet Sweesy b.ca.1817 in Ohio. Carolyn was told that William's parents were Frederick Preston born in Connecticut and died before 1850 in Ohio and Joanna Chapin b.11-22-1791, d/o John Chapin and Hannah Rockwood of PA. Sophia Jane Preston, dau. of William and Harriet, was born 8-29-1846 in Ohio and m. Ragan Blackburn, s/o Zachariah and Martha Rose. Sophia and Ragan had a son Thomas Sweesy Blackburn who was Carolyn's grandfather. She has been unable to trace Harriet Sweesy's parents or to verify that Frederick Preston was William H. 14. Barbara Preston Bradley is looking for information on her parents family. Her father was Gerald James Preston b.10-16-1901 d.7-1991. Gerald was born in Rochester, NY. His parents were Frederick Preston, a japanner, and Minnie Curley Preston. Minnie was from county Clare Ireland. Gerald was the youngest of four children. He had a sister who died young and two brothers who were much older, Frederick and Edward. Geralds mother died when he was only four years old and he spent much of his life in foster homes. Gerald went to sea when he was very young and enlisted in the British army in World War I. 16. Dr. Sarah Preston of Dublin is looking for information on either the ancestors of John and Sarah or their descendants. John Preston was born in Fazely, Staffordshire, ca. 1846 m. Sarah Ann b. ca.1848 in Warmfield, Yorkshire. John had several brothers and sisters but no information is available. Their family according to the Census of 1891 for Normanton, Yorkshire, is as follows:
• Stephen Preston b. Altofts, colliery worker.
• Edmond Preston b. Altofts, brickyard labourer.
• Sam b. Normanton, scholar (grandfather of Sarah).
• Fanny b. Normanton, scholar m. Mr. Bryan and moved to British Columbia.
• Ellen b. Normanton, scholar.
• John Preston b. Normanton married and had two children, Philip and Joan. Joan m. a Mr. Platt.
• Percy Preston b. Normanton.

17. Linda Blair is looking for information on her mother who was a Preston. Her mother's father was Albert Edward Preston b.7-27-1884 in Cincinnati, OH. Albert also had a brother, Harry G. Preston also born in Cincinnati. Both were christened in the Mt. Auburn Episcople Church. The parents of Albert and Harry were George Harry Preston and Ailie ? or Alyce ? Smales (dau. of Mr. Smales and Mary Ann Dennis of the Isle of Wight). George Harry Preston was born in Aberford, Yorkshire, England. George Harry Preston's parents were John Preston and Elizabeth Bailey. John and Elizabeth had a number of children including, George Harry Preston already mentioned, Charles Preston who went to Australia at the age of 16, James Preston who was a gameskeeper in Yorkshire and was accidently killed, Susan Preston who m. 25. Nancy Janssen is looking for information on a Samuel Hamilton Preston who m. Laura Obic Lycan. Samuel and Laura had a daughter Blanche Josephine Preston who m. Jacob Truman Zimmerly on 9-27-1905. Blanche suffered manic depression and committed suicide in 1920. Jacob and Blanch lived in a sod hut in North Dakota for a while (Ruth Zimmerly was born there) and later moved to Paris, IL. 27. Carl Strand is looking for ancestors of Catherine Preston b.1463, Frickley, Yorkshire, who married John Anne b.ca.1459 in Frickley, Yorkshire. (also died in Frickley). Catherine's father is given in Ancestry.com as Thomas Preston (no details). Catherine and John had a daughter Joan Anne (or Aune) who m. 28. Craig DeLong is looking for information on a George Albert Preston b.11-3-1864 in Nassau, Bahamas and m. Ella Rosamond Griffin. They had 5 boys and 4 girls including Olive Preston b.4-10-1888 who is Craig's grandmother. George's father was also George and he was born 3-26-1830 in Hertfordshire, England and moved with British officials to Nassau sometime before 1864. 30. Kate Macauley posted the following: My Greatgrandfather Thomas Preston, born in Wiltshire England and married to Eliza Chambers, born Kings County Ireland. They came to Australia in the Gold Rush of the 1850's and were married in Adelaide, Australia. not much more is known of them except that Thomas had a sister Hannah and she was married to a James Grey. 32. Hewitt Ryan Jr. is looking for the ancestors of Elizabeth "Betsy" Preston who m. Anthony Hampton 1715-1776. They both perished in the Hampton Massacre in South Carolina in 1776 when Tory inspired Indians massacred their family. Anthony was born in New Kent, VA.. Elizabeth and Anthony had a child Elizabeth Hampton b.1/14/1758 in Roan Co., NC, who married James Harrison b.1748. Have one unconfirmed report that an Edward Preston of New Kent, VA was the father of Elizabeth. All she has is that Joseph Preston Jr. was born 7/1/1803 in Hampstead, Middlesex, England and he was transported to Australia in 1820 on the "Asia1". Lucretia Unknown b.1794 in MA (?) d.10-30-1866. They are buried at Daws Corners in Genesee Co., NY. Children include Clarinda Preston, Sarah Olive Preston, Harriet Preston who married John W. 36. Albert Gordon is trying to tie a Sophronia Preston to an established line. Sophronia was born ca.1817 in New York, believed to be in western NY, like Chautaqua Co. She married Joseph S. Told the Pendleton was a tobacco farmer in CT, moved to VA then IL. He married Sarah Unknown and had; Cecil Preston, Nellie, Elsie and Victor Preston. He married secondly another Sarah Unknown and had: Raleigh Preston, Carson, Carl, Bertha who m. Tom Brooks, William, Carson, Gladys (Randolph), Mary and Edith (Maxedon). 40. Ron Stowell is looking for information confirming the following and possible link to England. His line starts with William Preston b.ca.1667, probably in Saco, Maine who m. Priscilla Randall ca.1685. He died in 1717 and Priscilla died 4-23-1752. They had 9 children, one of whom was William Preston b.1704/05 in Beverly, Mass. and on 5/2/1728 he married Mary Raymond. William died ca.1766. His son, William Preston b.8-5-1728 (prob. with dates) in Beverly, Mass., married on 6-12-1752 in Chester, NH., Hannah Healy. He died 1-9-1804 in Strafford, Vt. 42. Jo Preston is looking for information on a Preston family from Van Lear, KY. A Robert Arthur Preston born ca.1890-1905 m. Laura Waller and they had 6 children: James Preston, Irene Baldridge Preston, Fred Preston, Bill (William ?) Preston, Charles Langley Preston 1935-1991 and a daughter who died young. Roberts parents were from England and owned a large white house in Paintsville or West Van Lear. Robert Arthur Preston had a brother Charles Preston who owned a funeral home in West Van Lear.
