I am getting a number of inquiries for help in locating Prestons. Unfortunately I can not provide much help most of the time. I am going to post inquiries on this page so that others can see them and perhaps provide some help. Also, if anyone wants to supply me with their line (PRESTONs) I will put up a page for that family. It would be nice if all the different lines could be linked, and perhaps someday most of them will.  If you do not want your inquiry posted, please tell me. If anyone can help, either contact me, Fred Preston, or contact the person entering the query. Actually, you could contact both of us that way I can enter the line on this page. If any of the people requesting information get help from this page I would like to know. You cannot post inquiries yourself, send email to me and I will do it.

1. Larry Duncan Preston looking for information on his grandparents and their ancestors. Larry's grandparents were Elmer Elsworth Preston and Lillian 'Edwards' Preston. (needs information on Lillian.) Also, Elmer was the son of John A. Preston and Hannah Bentley. John A. Preston was the son of Peter and Abi (Hole) Preston. It is believed that John A. was born probably in Virginia 10-28-1824. The family moved from Virginia to Columbia Co., Ohio in 1825. Elmer and Lillian lived in Boone, Iowa where she died in the 1950's. Any information would be appreciated. April 98.
2. Ms. Martha Burgess is looking for information on a David Preston born in Bedford, VA about 1765 and married Ann Unknown. They had a daughter, Anne Preston who married William Smith. She would like any information on these people.
3. James Lee Preston is looking for information on James F. Preston who married Kate Egan about 1895. He believes James was born in VA and then came to Texas. His son Lee Egan Preston married Mary Cecil Degan of Lousville (Louisville ?), Texas. Their son was Lee Egan Preston Jr. (James' father). Information on James F. Preston would be appreciated.
4. Barbara Jean Preston Jordon is looking for information on David William Preston, born London England abt 1880, married Bertha Kate Groom. They had two sons, Harold Preston b.1899-1900 and Herbert Edward Preston b.4-23-1903. Harold stayed in England and had 2 children, Christopher and Patricia Preston. Herbert Edward Preston came to US in 1920's. Any information appreciated. Posted 3/24/98.
5. Dennis J. Parmer is looking for information on Georgia Ann Preston daughter of William Gay Preston 1815-1900 and her mother was Delania Smith 1823-1910. Georgia's brothers and sisters were John Jefferson Preston 1841-1862, Sara Frances Preston, Archibald G. Preston 1847-1929 and Nancy Victoria Preston 1852-1923. Georgia married Geroge Robert (Budd) Parmer 1849-1906. Believe her grandfather was William Gilliam Preston 1780-1832 and GGrandfather Thomas Preston 1754-1836 but need this confirmed. She lived in the Clay County, Alabama area. If the Grandfather and GGrandfather are correct, this ties into the Augusta Co., VA to Walton Co., GA Prestons. Posted 3/24/98.
6. William Preston Kochman is seeking information on William Louis Preston, believed to be from Ohio, and possibly of Welsh descent. He married June Collier also of Ohio, sometime between 1900-1934. They had 4 children probably in Marietta, Ohio. The children are, Doris Eloise Preston, William Louis Preston Jr., June Darlene Preston and Gertrude Elinor Preston. Now for confusion.... Doris Preston married William Yokem (Spelling??) and they had several children born in the Pittsburgh, PA area. One of these children is Barbara Lee Preston b.8/1/35. Not sure if the name was changed or how it became something other than Yokem. Anyway, William would like some help, anyone who can shed some light on this family should contact him. Thanks. 7. Donna Preston Loveland seeking ancestor/family information about Ebenezer Preston, b. abt. 1750 (location not known), joined Am. Rev. at age 26 in 1776 in New Jersey; applied for and received federal pension in 1833; listed as patriot by DAR on plaque in Cape May Courthouse, NJ; appeared in the ratables in Cape May County and Cumberland County from 1789-1807. His son, Ebenezer Preston Jr., born 1786 in Cape May Co., NJ, married Mahala Tomlin abt. 1809. Their children were Richard b.1816, David b.1816 m. Amelia Corson, Ebenezer III, Elizabeth b.1823 m. David Wright, William m. Margaret Ann Hatch in Illinois and moved his family to Oregon in 1879, Robert, Sarah A. b.1831 m. Hathorn Tomlin, Lydia Ann b.1832 m. Jeremiah Corson and Othniel. Ebenezer Preston Jr.'s family moved to Sangamon Co., Illinois in 1839. Donna is seeking information on any/all members of this family. She has other information on their descendants that she is willing to share.
8. Devin Rollis is looking for information on a Susannah Preston who married John Caldwell sometime before 1760 when their first son was born. They lived in Augusta/Botetourt County VA. Their daughter Nancy Caldwell married John A. Mann. John and Nancy Mann named one of their sons Archibald Preston Mann. Can someone tell us who Susannah Preston's parents were ??
9. This is a somewhat unusual request. David D'Apice has recently moved into a home built by Marshall Preston in 1820 in Billerica, Mass. He is looking for any pictures of Marshall or his house or any other information on Marshall. David is restoring the house. Marshall was the son of Amariah Preston and Hannah Reed. If anyone has pictures please contact David. Thank you.
10. Rhoda is looking for information on Edward Preston b.xxxx d.1944. Edward was living on the Wylie plantation in Spotslyvania Co., VA. He left there in a hurry helped by his sister and went to Stafford Co.. He married Cellie Barnet. He had at least one son, John Edward Preston b.7/18/1890. Posted 2/20/98.
11. Cheryel Goodale is searching for information on Thomas Preston 1830-1887 who married Sarah Cannon 1837-1904 and had at least two daughters. One of the daughters, Nettie Preston b.1863 married Frank McCrady in Ontario. One of Frank and Nettie's children was Charles McCrady. Any information appreciated, contact either link above or myself. 12. Bill Scholtes formerly from St. Joseph, MI is looking for ancestors from England and Ohio. John Preston b. abt.1788 in England, immigrated abt. 1825 died 8-22-1851 in Marion Co., OHIO. He married Hannah Pool b.abt.1795 in England, immigrated abt.1825 and died 10-5-1843 in Marion Co., OHIO. One child mentioned, Sarah Ann Preston b.11-21-1826 d.9-15-1904 in Berrien Co., MI. 13. Dianne Glover is looking for information on her great grandmother, Frances Preston b.1846 in Mississippi and married Duncan Graham in 1869. According to the 1910 census she had 9 children all alive in 1910. Her parents were apparently also born in Mississippi. Any info appreciated. Posted 1/26/98.
14. Sharron McBride is looking for information on Francis Preston born abt. 1778 and died abt 1874/75 in Mason Co., KY.. He married on 30 Nov.1799 in Mason Co., KY Elizabeth Stubblefield b. abt.1783 in VA. She was the dau. of Robert Stubblefield. Their daughter, Mary Preston b.abt.1813 in KY, married Frazer Duerson Herndon and moved to Missouri. Their son Benjamin Preston also moved his family to MO. It is believed Francis could have been born in Maryland. Please help. Posted 1/26/98.
15. R. Phillips is looking for the parents of Lewis Preston. He was born in 1788 in Virginia. His parents are believed to be Jilson Preston and Ruth Stone. They were in Garrard County, KY in 1810. Jilson Preston may be related to Tolliver and Enoch Preston and possibly John Preston. The 1810 census shows that Jilson (Gillson) would have been born before 1765. 16. Frank and Diana Preston are looking for information on Martin Preston. His son was Frank Asberry Preston born 8-3-1859 in Paintsville, Johnson, KY. Frank married Nellie Deborah Weaver who was born 9-14-1866 in Anamosa, Jones, Iowa. Posted 1/22/98.
17. Bruce Preston is looking for information on his grandfather, Arlie H. (Hirem ?) Preston. Born in 1878 probably in Michigan but his parents believed to be of the New England Prestons. At one time he lived in Michigan with a Baird family before he was married. Spent most of his life in Trinidad, CO. Arlie's son was Marshall Preston b.1911. Any information appreciated. 18. Fred Preston is looking for the parents of John Preston born 1726 in County Derry Ireland and came to America in 1775 with his wife Eleanor Fairman b.1725, Jane Preston b.1758 and Walter Preston b.1756. Their son Robert Preston had come to America in 1773. He was born 1750. They settled in Washington Co., VA. They were Scots-Irish living in Londonderry area, dont know if born in Northern Ireland or came from either Scotland or England. Any information welcome. Posted 1/16/98.
19. Stephen Smith is looking for information on James Preston of Worcestershire, England who came to America in 1852 with his wife Elizabeth (Hobbs) Preston. Posted 1/13/98.
20. Thomas Preston is searching for information that looks like it could be connected to the inquiry below. His fourth great grandfather is supposed to have come from Furness Abbey and his name was William. He married Cynthia Lord and they came to Rumney, New Hampshire. Two of their sons migrated to Ohio, around Defiance and fought in the war of 1812. One son was John and one was WILLIAM. Williams son was Henry Clay Preston. Henry Clay Preston and a twin brother, George migrated to Iowa in 1857. Posted 1/13/98.
21. Bill Smith is looking for parents of William Charles Preston, Sheriff of Defiance Co., OH, in 1824-1828. He was born abt.1780 in either VT, MA or NH and died Nov. 1837 in Williams Co., OH. His brother JOHN married Sophia Ewing. Posted 1/13/98.
22. Kay Eastaugh is looking for information on the following: Her gggrandfather was George Preston who married a Charlotte Pledger in BURROUGH GREEN, Cambridgeshire, England in 1828. His son Thomas 'Pledger' Preston married Unknown and had as many as 16 children. One of the children, Walter Preston is believed to have come to Canada and joined the Mounties, Sergeant Preston no doubt. Another of the children is Kay's grandfather. 23. Liz Baty is looking for the parents and birth place of JOHN PRESTON b.ca.1838 somewhere in Quebec ?, Canada. He is listed as French Canadian and his parents as "foreign" on the 1870 census for Pittsfield Twp., Warren Co., PA. (since this is a US census, "foreign" could mean Canada as well as overseas. He was in lumbering. In Pittsfield he married about 1868 ? Mary Jane "Jennie" Darling born about 1851/3, daughter of Solomon and Catherine ??? Darling. Their first son Delbert Eugene Preston was born Dec. 1869. Another child was Ira O. Preston born 1871, possibly other children. Jennie petitioned for divorce in 1877 and the divorce was final in Mar. 1878, the subpoena was not served as John was already gone. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Liz Baty. Posted 1/8/98.
24. Randy and Patti Necessary (also Essary) are looking for information on a Lucretia (Lucressy) Preston, born about 1775 in Russell Co., VA ? and died after 1850 in Tazewell Co., VA. Lucretia Preston married William Henry Necessary also born 1775 and they lived in Russell Co., VA. 26. Derek Preston is looking for information on a Julia Catherine Preston b.1944, this may be her maiden name or married name ?? Last known to be a state registered nurse living in Westcliff-on-sea, UK in 1968.
27. Patrica Royer is looking for information on Lovisa Preston, daughter of Jeptha T. Preston and Jane Graham Preston. Lovisa married Peter Katz in 1859 and they lived in Jefferson County, PA. Any information appreciated.

Ruth Hall is looking for information on the parents of Daniel Joseph Preston b.4-6-1852 in Logan Co., Ohio and died 8-1-1928 in Findley, Ohio, married Wilhelmina Stephen (1859-1923) and their children, all born in Van Wert, Ohio, were, Harry Preston, Calvin, Pearl, Viola, Bertha May, Elizabeth and Charles Preston. 29. Bill Preston looking for the parents of William A. Preston who died 10-1880 in Jacksonville, FL. Williams wife was from Mass. Their son John Alexander Preston (1856-1924) born in Richview, IL. John married Clara Petitt. John and Clara had a son John Zenas Preston b.12-6-1883 in Waldo, FL and died 5-19-45 in Jacksonville, FL. John Zenas Preston married Mary Lois Warrington. Their son Wm Warrington Preston Sr and then Bill Jr. Again any help would be appreciated.
30. Sam Stewart wants information on Amos Preston believed to be born in Willington Hollow, CT. His son Joshua Preston married Caroline Eldridge. Dates unknown but probably late 1700's or 1800's.
31. D. E. Mayfield is looking for information on a Mary Preston Barger. John Preston's daughter, Mary Preston, married John Barger on 2-4-1822 in Montgomery County, Virginia. Other information which may be related is the 1850 census shows a family as follows: Headed by Mary Barger age 44 (est.b.1806), John Barger 25, Mary Barger 23, Daniel Barger 19, Wm. J. Barger 16, Geo. W. Barger 11, Thomas J. Barger 9, Ballard M. Barger 6 and Andrew Barger 13, listed in that order. Also in the (Large) household were John Preston 84 (born in Ireland) est.1766, Lucy Preston 80 (est.b.1770) and Robert Preston 38 (est. born 1812). Can anyone connect these Prestons or Bargers to one of the Preston lines in Virginia ??? The BALLARD name could link them to Smithfield Prestons.
32. Cliff Huber wrote: Prestons of Armagh, ireland- My gg gf, Isaac Preston, Jr. came from Market Hill near Armagh. Isaac came to the US by 1807 with his wife, Sarah Porter. Lving in New Amersterdam, N.Y., he was imprisoned as a british sympathizer during the War of 1812. He and family emigrated to Bath and Amherst Island, ON in 1816.
