  1. Anne Sophonisba Preston b.4-9-1803 d. 12-20-1844, sixth child of Gen. Francis Preston and Sally Buchanan Campbell Preston, was born in Saltville, VA. She married Robert J. Breckenridge of Kentucky. Robert was a theologian from Baltimore. Anne was the first of his three wives. She died in Baltimore, MD. They had 11 children.(another account shows 14):

    • Mary Cabell Breckenridge married Dr. William Warfield b.ca 1827. William was the son of Benjamin Warfield and Sallie Caldwell. Mary is buried in Lexington Cemetery, KY. They had 5 children: (Additional data supplied by D. Kelly.)

    • Robert J. Breckenridge II, Col. in Confederate Army and a member of the Confederate Congress. Married Kate Morrison of Lexington, KY. They had one son.
    • Marie L. C. Breckenridge married Rev. W. C. Handy. They had 6 children.
    • William Campbell Preston Breckenridge a lawyer in Lexington, KY, a Colonel in the Confederate Army, a member of the Confederate Congress and the U.S. Congress. Known for his silver hair and silver tongue. One account shows he was married 3 times. 1-Miss Clay, dau. of Thomas H. Clay, granddaughter of Henry Clay, no children, 2- Miss Desha, dau. of Dr. J. H. Desha of Lexington, KY, no children and 3. Miss Louisa Scott, no children. Another account states he did have children with Miss. Desha and does not mention marriage to Miss Louisa Scott.
    • Sophonisba P. Breckenridge married Dr. Theophilus Steele, formerly of Woodbury Co., KY and later New York City. He was a major in the Confederate Army.
    • Joseph Cabell Breckenridge. He was a Major in the Federal Army. He married Miss Dudley, daughter of Dr. Ethelbert Dudley of Lexington. He lived many years in Washington, D.C.. He had one son.:

    • Charles Preston Breckenridge was a Captain in the U.S. Army. Another account shows his middle initial to be H.
  2. Jane Robertson Preston b.6-13-1804 d.8-1804.
  3. Maria Thornton Carter Preston b.8-26-1806 d. 10-18-1842, born in Saltville, VA and died in Abingdon, VA, buried Aspenvale Cemetery, Seven Mile Ford, VA. She married John Montgomery Preston I, son of Walter Preston and Anne Montgomery of the Walnut Grove Prestons. They were married on Sept. 20, 1832 and had 2 sons. See John Montgomery Preston I.
  4. Charles Henry Campbell Preston b. 9-13-1807 d. 1-13-1832 married Mary Beale of Virginia. They had two children both of which died very young. Soon after Charles death, his widow married Mr. John Richardson and they had one daughter.
    • Mary Richardson who married Mr. Edmiston. They lived at "Fatheringway" near Christiansburg, VA. This couple had 3 children.

  5. John Smith Preston b.4-20-1809 d. 5-1-1881 married Miss Caroline Hampton of SC. A sister of Wade Hampton. John owned a large and beautiful plantation in Louisiana. They had 8 children.:

    • Alfred Preston died unmarried.
    • John Preston married Celestine Huger of South Carolina and they had 4 children.
      • William Preston, died unmarried.
      • Celestine Huger Preston married Mr. Lane Mulally.
      • Caroline Hampton Preston died unmarried.
      • Mary Preston died unmarried.
    • William C. Preston was killed in the Civil War at Atlanta.
    • Wade Hampton Preston died young.
    • Mary C. Preston married Dr. John T. Darby of South Carolina and they had two children.:
      • Caroline Hampton Darby married Mays Reed.
      • John Preston Darby lives in South Carolina.
    • Sally Campbell Preston married Rawlings Lowndes of SC.
    • Susan F. Preston married Henry Frost of SC.
  6. James Madison Preston, 11 child of Gen. Francis Preston and Sally Campbell, b. 5-18-1811 d. 1-22-1812.
  7. Thomas Lewis Preston b. 11-10-1812 d. 3-20-1903 married twice. First to Miss Elizabeth Watts. She died within 6 months. Secondly to Miss Anna Saunders. Thomas was a Professor at the Univ. of Virginia and author of note. This couple had no children.
  8. Robert Gamble Preston b. 10-9-1815 d. 12-1815.
  9. Margaret Buchanan Preston b. 1-13-1818 d. 7-27-1852 married Gen. Wade Hampton of South Carolina. They had 3 children.:
    • Wade Hampton died unmarried.
    • Thomas Preston Hampton was killed in the Civil War.
    • Sally Buchanan Hampton married Col. John Cheves Haskell, a gallant soldier in the Confederate Army. They had 4 children.:
      • Preston Haskell married and had 3 children.
      • Annie Haskell married Mr. Frank Allen Lindsay of Mass. in 1893. They had 6 children.
