Will -
of Fannie W. Tinsley, Rec. W. B. No. 18 P.267
Oct. 28, 1916
I, Fannie W. Tinsley, of Richmond, Virginia, do make
this as, and for my last will and testament, hereby revoking all wills heretofore made by
me.
Item 1. I direct that all my just debts be paid.
Item 2. I give my daughter Jennie G. Tinsley to have only during her
life, or so long as she may remain unmarried, sixty shares of stock of the par value of
$25 each of the Norfolk Railway and Light Company, and at the death of my daughter, or at
her marriage, whichever may happen first, I direct that the said sixty shares of stock
form a part of my residue of my estate and pass as there provided.
Item 3. All the rest and residue of my property of every kind and
character, I direct shall pass to and be divided, share and share alike, among my
children, Jennie included, then living, and the issue of any that may be dead such issue
to take the part the deceased parent would have taken if alive, in this class I provide to
the effect that my grandson, Seaton Tinsley Preston, shall take the share his deceased
mother, Hattie B. Preston, would take, if alive, but, I have advanced to Seaton Tinsley
Preston the sum of Nine Hundred Dollars, and this sum so advanced to him shall be brought
in hotchpot with my estate, and, if my estate in division shall not be sufficient to make
the share of Seaton Preston as much as the amount advanced to him, he shall not be
required to refund to my estate any part of the amount advanced to him. I have given to my
daughter Jennie G. Tinsley in my life certain property, I expressly direct that no part of
the property previously given to her by me shall be treated as an advancement to her; it
is my will that it be hers absolutely and independently of her share and interest under
this will, as fully as if the property so given her were a specified legacy to her under
this will; in other words, she shall have the property previously given to her in addition
to the share and property given her herein.
Item 4. Names William T. Tinsley and Justin K. Anderson as Executors.
Will dated October 28th, 1916.
Signed Fannie W. Tinsley
Witnessed by B. P. Alsop
and Martha T. Alsop.
This will is of interest because some genealogy records show the date of Fannie's death as January 1891. This will is dated 1916 and her account of Civil War Experiences, Mrs. Seaton G. (Grantland) Tinsley, was dated 1912.
