Using classic Yogacara imagery, Han-shan once wrote a playful allegorical verse describing the emancipation of his esoteric older brother in which the cognitive faculties of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch are his five younger brothers. Han-shan himself symbolizes the sixth level of consciousness, the conceptual consciousness, and his obstreperous older brother is the seventh level, the willful experiential consciousness. Their mother is the fertile womb of the eighth level, the storehouse consciousness. And the patriarch of this mystical nine member family is transcendent, autonomous, holonomic Mind. |
