From Ruby Henderson's Notes: Anthony Wayne's father Norman was born on the ocean 1793. A Highland Scot, occupation shoe maker settled in Butler, Pa. Norman had three brothers: John, Malcholm, & Alexander and two sisters: Mrs. Amberson and Mrs. Scott. Norman McDonald married Mary Harris, a red-headed Irish-English lass. They had three sets of twins: George Harris & Kenard, Anthony Wayne & Anna Eliza, Katherine & _______. Anthony Wayne was born in Butler, Pa, July 7, 1838. His father Norman died in 1858. Most of the money went to Anthony Wayne -- so said Horace Greeley Henderson, but a will in Lawrence's possession left all to wife, Mary Harris & George Harris except for a token to Kenard. Mary Harris sold the farm in Ohio and put the money in the bank which went broke and they lost all. Anthony worked as a cabin boy on Ohio River boats. His Uncle G. Harris came to Illinois to settle about 1857. He bought rights of a farm in 1858 from a widow, 80 acres some 14 miles north of Fairfield. About then, Anthony came out. He was first engaged to Molly Tullis. She & her sister Agnes both died of fever. He then married Euphemia Tullis. A tax receipt was found for 40 acres in Anthony's name in Burnt Prairie Township, Wayne County, dated 1861. This is east of Fairfield 8 to 10 miles. They went to Kansas in 1866, S. E. of Liberty. They took up a claim near Fredonia. They had two children -- Norman and Agnes. They came back late one fall to Fairfield & Anthony & Euphemia separated. Agnes staying with the mother. Norman going with his father. In November 28, 1868, Anthony married Harriet Nichols. She was a teacher. They left Illinois for Missouri in fall of 1869. Their child Molly was born December 1869. They moved to Current View, Mo. where Susan was born & died 18 months later. Harriet died sometime after that. (Mother Mary H. died at age of 76 & is buried here.) Anthony returned to Illinois in 1873 and married Cornelia _____ who was living with the Nichols. They had two children. First child lived about a year and the other died in birth with its mother, Cornelia (at this time Norman was about 14 years old.) Anthony married again -- date & name of the woman isn't known but of this union five children were born -- one boy Thomas & four girls. Molly Nichols McDonald married Charles Nichols, who was a distant cousin, at Odin, Ill. Anna Eliza, Anthony's twin sister died at McLean Co, Ill. Norman stayed with his aunt when his father had no home for him. He had a rough childhood but became a superintendent of schools at Parsons, Kansas. His wife's name was Minnie and their four sons were: Edwin, Horace, Lawrence & Kenneth. All had a college degree & were successful in their line of work. Norman was a stern father. The boys had to earn their own way through college. Norman visited the George Hendersons -- once that I remember. It was during strawberry season & how he loved strawberries & mom's home made rolls. He was a diabetic & suffered with hives. His arms were covered with bumps & we tried soda mixture to ease the itching. I thought he was very nice & he wrote to me for a few years after that visit. His sons were boyhood friends & first cousins of my dad (George Henderson). I met Kenneth when he managed a hotel in Evanston, Ill, when I was 17. He went to San Francisco from there & became a professional singer. He died during WWII. Lawrence, I met at Great Uncle Robert's funeral, Fairfield, Ill & again at Uncle Harlan's funeral at Ostrander, Minn. Horace had a home at Evanville, Indiana & Cheryl, Bill & I stopped to visit on our way home from Ft Campbell, Ky in 1971.
