A Mako Makeover and Some Cheap Guitars

[ Mako Exotec XK-4 ] [ Mako Exotec XK-4 ] [ SX SJM-62 ] [ Squier '51 ]

The red pointy guitar is a Mako Exotec XK-4. The shape screamed for something besides the skinny little pickups it came with, so I installed some humbucker-sized P-90 style pickups from Pete Biltoft at Vintage Vibe Guitars. It really sounds good now and plays pretty well too, despite having a body made of plywood. You can hear it on the lead guitar part on my song "Code Blue" at SoundClick.

The blue guitar is an SX SJM-62 from Rondo Music. I love the shape and the color. The pickups are decent P-90 reproductions. After leveling and dressing the frets and shimming the neck a bit, it plays real nice.

I had read a bunch of good reviews of the Squier '51 on usenet, and I love the retro styling, so I bought this one off eBay. After a little work, it's a great little guitar.
