Davilectros #1 and #2

[ Davilectro Baritone ] [ Davilectro Headstock ] [ Homemade electric guitar ]

I bought a couple of mahogany guitar body blanks on eBay with no specific project in mind. I eventually decided that I would make a baritone guitar with a Telecaster shape. I bought a Chinese Danelectro baritone neck, pots, a switch and a bridge from Allparts, cut the body out with a jigsaw, routed it and shaped it, then spray-painted it gold. Those are the original Mako pickups in it. The finish is real ugly, but it sounds sweet. I spent all afternoon of my first day with it playing "Chain of Fools". You can hear it on "Urosepsis" at my SoundClick site.

The ugly guitar on the right was made in my garage. I bought a short scale (23") neck off eBay, cut the body from a piece of mahogany, finished it with tung oil and installed 2 Burns Trisonic pickups in it. It plays and sounds much better than it looks. I gave it to my good friend and colleague Walt Carroll of Texas Studio C. He wants my Lazer, but Barby says he can't have it.
