Thai Kitchen has opened at 2400 S. Memorial Drive in the
Greenville Buyers Market shopping center. It's the former
location of Aggie's Hot Subs.
Owners are Nattanit "Nandy" Sonthihom and her husband, chef
Victor Kasemtreerat, both natives of Thailand. Sonthihom
said her family has a Thai restaurant in Maine. She and her
husband, who has been a chef for 10 years, visited
Greenville with their daughter, who hopes to attend medical
school at East Carolina University next year. They decided
to open a restaurant here.
Thai specialties include Tom Yum (Thai hot and sour soup
with lemon grass, mushrooms, tomatoes, kaffir lime leaves,
cilantro, scallions and Thai chili paste, with a choice of
chicken, shrimp or mixed seafood) from $3.95-$6.95; Pad
Thai (stir-fried rice noodles with chicken, shrimp, tofu,
egg, bean sprouts, scallion and crushed peanuts) for $8.95;
Duck chu-chee (crispy boneless half duck on mixed
vegetables with curry paste) for $14.95; and Pa-nang curry
(bell pepper, zucchini, carrot and crushed peanuts with
curry paste) served with a choice of chicken, pork, beef,
tofu, shrimp, salmon or duck ($9.95-$14.95).
Diners choose how spicy they want the dish prepared, from
mild "a" to spicy "e." No MSG is used.
Non-alcoholic beverages are available, including Thai iced
coffee and Thai iced tea. Desserts include ice cream and
fried bananas,
Lunch specials ($6.95-$7.95) are served with egg roll and
soup of the day.
The nonsmoking restaurant has seating for 40 people at
tables.
