The Elements

To a Wiccan all magic is based on four elements. You will find these also in astrology. These are:

Earth: Rules the northern quarter of the circle. It is feminine in nature. The color is dark green. It is associated with midnight, Winter, the pentacle, ritual salt, gemstones, mountains, caves, soil, respect, endurance, responsibility, stability, thoroughness, and purpose in life.

Earth Incense
2/3 tsp Pine resin or needles
1/3 tsp Patchouly
1 pinch finely powdered Salt
a few drops Cypress Oil
Burn for invoking the powers of the Element of Earth.

Air: Rules the eastern quarter of the circle. It is masculine in nature. The color is pure yellow. It is associated with sunrise, Spring, incense, the wand, clouds, breezes, breath, optimism, joy, intelligence, mental quickness, and any kind of air.

Air Incense
1/2 tsp Benzoin
1/4 tsp Gum Mastic
1/8 tsp Lavender
1 pinch Wormwood
1 pinch Mistletoe(*POISON*)
Burn to invoke the Element of Air.

Fire: Rules the southern quarter of the circle. It is masculine in nature. The color is pure red. It is associated with noon, Summer, the dagger and sword, candles, any kind of fire, the Sun, the stars, the blood, enthusiasm, activity, courage, daring, willpower, and leadership.

Fire Incense
3/8 tsp Frankincense
2/8 tsp Dragon's Blood
1/8 tsp Red Sandalwood
1 pinch Saffron
a few drops Musk Oil
Smolder for summoning the powers and beings of Fire.

Water: Rules the western quarter of the circle. It is feminine in nature. The color is pure blue. It is associated with sunset, Fall, the chalice and cauldron, any form of water, compassion, peacefulness, forgiveness, love, and intuition.

Water Incense
1/2 tsp Benzoin
1/4 tsp Myrrh
1/4 tsp Sandalwood
a few drops Lotus Bouquet
a few drops Ambergris Oil
Burn to attract the influences of Water.
