Description:  We are a 7th grade / 13U basketball team that is associated with the ATX basketball club (www.atxboys.com) that originates out of the central Texas area.  The ATX basketball club is a program of Greater Central Texas Youth Association (GCTYA), a non-profit, 501©3 organization.  The mission of GCTYA is to “Enrich the minds, bodies and spirits of our participants, though academics and athletics.”  We strive to be an alternative to the various negative elements which compete for the attention of our youth.  Click here if you would like to get more information on how to make a tax-deductible contribution to our organization or contact David King directly.

Our list of current sponsors and partners can be viewed from here.

Our particular 13U team has 85% of coaches and players residing in Pflugerville, Texas and

as a result the majority of our practices are conducted in Pflugerville and/or North Austin.  Our

players will all be playing on their 7th grade middle school teams so we will not try to have a

simultaneous Fall/Winter season.  Our Spring/Summer season for 2008 will start toward the end of

February and will extend thru the end of July of 2008.

ATX Takes 2nd Place at Capital City Easter Bash / March 2008

Mission:  The primary objective of our team is to provide a vehicle which allows talented young boys to compete at the highest level at this age.  We strive to give basketball instruction with an emphasis on all the fundamental aspects of the game as well as team play.  Boys participating in our team typically have a desire to develop their game at a level which would allow them to try-out and make their middle school and high school teams in the future.  We require that each player must be passing all classes in school to be able to play each tournament game.

Coaches:  Head coach David King and assistant coach Ron Campbell are the current coaches for the 13U team.  Both have had numerous years of basketball coaching experience with young kids.  David King’s complete basketball resume is available here.

Practices vs. Games:  The goal is to practice once or twice a week at various gyms located in Pflugerville and North Austin.   Our complete practice and tournament schedule can be viewed here.  The current schedule shows the team planning to play in 12 tournaments for the Spring/Summer season, including road trips to Houston, Seguin, Denton, and Wichita St, Kansas.  Our philosophy is that the kids will grow and develop in their game primarily through the instruction and teaching that is received in practice rather than games.  As such we require and expect players to be present and to do their best at all practices.

Fees:  The player fees will vary from season to season, depending on number of players on the team, number of pre-determined tournaments, practice time, and the number of donations and contributions to the team.  The current estimated dues for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2008 season are estimated at $485 total per player for the season but sponsorship monies will cover at least $150/player and hopefully even more than that.  The follow payments are due:

$125  due    Feb 15th 2008 (returned)

                                        100  due    March 15th (returned)

35  due    May 30th     (not needed – yeah!)

                                         ---------

                                            $335 à $0

Additional expenses: admission fees to tournaments are anticipated to be $10/adult/weekend; also additional expenses will be incurred for out-of-town tournaments for lodging and travel.
