Barber Family History

The first member of this family was Joseph Barber b.11-20-1783 in an area near London called New South Gate. Joseph married Sarah unknown and had a son Joseph H. Barber. This son, the Rev. Joseph H. Barber b.2-5-1826 d.1904, came to this country from England with his father sometime between 1826 and 1852. The senior Joseph Barber died 4-3-1852 and was buried in the Asbury Cemetery, West Phila., PA.   They apparently lived in the Philadelphia area until about 1860 when they moved to the Dubois area of Pennsylvania. A church news article written in March 1922 speaks of Rev. Barber as follows: "As a deacon the Rev. Joseph Barber served faithfully as an itinerant missionary for nineteen years. Not only at Sugar Hill but all along the Low Grade Division of the Allegheny Valley Railroad, he ministered at Lawsonham, Oak Ridge, Fairmont, Reynoldsville, DuBois and by his fruitful labors purchased unto himself a good degree and was advanced to the Priesthood by Bishop Whitehead on March 28, 1871. He died in 1904 aged seventy eight leaving a rich legacy of good work done for God." This church was Episcopalian and probably in DuBois, PA.

Rev. Joseph Barber b.2-5-1826 d.1904 married on 4-9-1847 Sarah Robinson b.9-3-1822 d. xxxx. Sarah Robinson was the daughter of John Robinson 1793-1853 and Hannah Leigh 1795-1857, formerly natives of Cheshire, England. Just found out that Hannah Leigh, of the parish of Cheadle married John Robinson by banns (?) 26 January 1817. (My middle name is LEIGH for Hannah). John Robinson was the son of John Hubbs Robinson (not sure of this, John Hubbs Robinson may have been Sarah Robinson's brother. Sure would like some help on Robinson and Leigh). Joseph and Sarah had 9 children:
