Mathias Bausser, Sr. 1670 - xxxx

Most of the following data was supplied by Lisa Strobel from "The Bowser Family History" by Addison Bartholomew Bowser, A.M., pub. 1922 by the Bowser Reunion which meets annually at Kittanning, Armstrong Co., PA.

The earliest known representative of this family is Mathias Bausser, Sr. b.1670 d.xxxx. Mathias married Esther Unknown b.1684 and they had 7 children:

  1. Mathias Bausser, Jr. b.1711 d.xxxx who married Anna Elizabeth Unknown b.1713 d.xxxx. Mathias Bausser, Jr., lived at Lancaster until after 1739. He made a permanent settlement in Paradise Township, York County, about one mile north of Abborttstown, which is now in Adams County. Mathias and Anna had 11 children:
    1. Anna Catherine Bausser b.1731 d.xxxx.
    2. Anna Maria Bausser b.1733 d.xxxx.
    3. Anna Margaret Bausser bap.5-12-1739 in Lancaster, PA.
    4. David Bausser b.1738 (bap.5-12-1739 in the Reformed Church of Lancaster, PA) d.1813 m. Elizabeth Unknown b.xxxx d.xxxx. (According to "Bowser Family History" David married Catherine Unknown) David and Elizabeth had 9 children. Seven were mentioned in his will.
      1. Catrout Bowser, female, buried in the ancient burial place on the David Bowser farm, never married.
      2. Elizabeth Bowser.

        • Joseph Berkheimer never married.
        • Jacob Berkheimer b.3-6-1806 d.7-9-1874 m. Catharine Bowser b.6-17-1808 d.10-19-1866.
      5. Valentine Bowser  m. Mary Unknown and lived in St. Clair Township in 1821.  In the census reports of 1820, St. Clair Township, , Bedford County, he and his wife are listed as aged between 26 and 45, no children, farmer.  Valentine probably died in 1830 or shortly before because the census of 1830 does not list Valentine, but Mary, no doubt his widow, aged 40-50 years and in her family are 6 males and 3 females. Two known children are:
        1. Valentine Bowser, Jr. 1819-1891 m. Catherine Unknown 1824-xxxx. Valentine Jr. and Catherine had these 5 children and possibly 4 others:

          2. Joseph Bowser 1851-xxxx m. Eve Unknown b.1854 d.xxxx.
          3. Henry Bowser 1857-xxxx.
          4. Jacob Bowser 1860-xxxx.
          5. Valentine Bowser 1862-xxxx m. William Unknown
        2. Samuel Bowser 1824 d.12-20-1896 m. Ann Unknown b.1824. Their children were:
          1. Alexander Bowser 1850-xxxx

    5. John Bausser b.1740 d.1813 m. Mary Unknown. John, a soldier of the Revolutionary War bought land on Yellow Creek, Hopewell Twp., Bedford County on 4-5-1797. Deed Book Vol. I, page 479: "Know that I, Jos. haines of Hopewell Twp., made an improvement on a tract of land in March 1796, joining lands with Melor and Jos. Snyder and Tusseys Mountain in Hopewell Twp. and on Apr. 5, 1797, for the sum of 26 lbs. ten shillings, to me in hand paid by John Bowser, did sell improvement and to warrant and defend it from me and my heirs forever unto said John Bowser of Woodbury Twp., County of Bedford." Joseph Haines signed the document in German. Here, on these fertile acres, John Bowser and Mary, his wife, lived until his death in 1813. His great-grandson, Henry P. Bowser, lived in Hopewell Twp. about three miles east of the old John Bowser homestead. John and Mary had 12 children:

      6. Nicholas Bowser b.1781/82 d.1862 at Hopewell, m. Elizabeth Unknown.
      7. Peter Bowser 1786-1879 m. Sarah Russell b.1787.
      8. Mary Bowser m. John Burnhamer.
      9. Elizabeth Bowser m. Abram Swigart.
      10. Catherine Bowser m. Peter Kline.
      11. Julia Ann Bowser m. David Flenner.
