Eleanor Fairman Preston b.11-7-1812 d.1-10-1887, daughter of Col. John Preston and Margaret Brown Preston, married Judge James White Sheffey of Marion, Va. on Sept. 29, 1835. Judge Sheffey was born 3-15-1813 and died 6-27-1876. They had eleven children:

1. Margaret Preston Sheffey b.10-4-1836 c.8-29-1869 married Prof. William E. Peters of Univ. of Virginia on 9-8-1858. They had 2 sons:

2. John Preston Sheffey b.12-12-1837 d.8-20-1905 married Josephine Spiller b.3-31-1840 d.11-19-1904 of Wythe County, Va., on 6-9-1863. They had 7 children:
• Eleanor Fairman Sheffey b.7-11-1866 d.11-9-1952 married Benjamin Franklin Buchanan on 3-2-1887. They had 7 children:
• John Preston Buchanan b.1-30-1888 d.9-15-1937 married Annabelle M. Morris on 8-14-1912.
• Patrick Campbell Buchanan b.2-24-1889 d.11-10-1890.
• Josephine Buchanan b.8-22-1891.
• Virginia B. Buchanan b.10-11-1894 married Gen. Guy Blair Denit on Dec.11, 1917. They had two daughters.
• Frank Buchanan b.11-29-1896 d.12-17-1896.
• Eleanor Fairman Buchanan b.2-6-1901 married Harry Watson Starcher.
• David H. Buchanan b.5-8-1907 married Katherine Pritchell on 8-24-1929. They had one child.
• Cynthia Dee Buchanan b.1-17-1937.
• Susan Montgomery Sheffey b.8-12-1867 married Dr. E. Marcellus Copenhaver and they had 2 children:
• Preston Copenhaver.
• Elizabeth Copenhaver.
• Margaret Peters Sheffey b.10-25-1868 married Percy Cochran March. Percy was named after his father's (Rufus Pierce March) commanding officer in the Civil War, Union Captain James R. Percy, a brave and gallant engineer of the 53rd Ohio Regiment. Percy was killed by a Confederate sniper at the Battle for Atlanta in August 1864. Rufus Percy March was discharged after Shiloh with a disability but reenlisted later and fought at the Battle of Monacacy River at Frederick, Maryland. He returned to Ohio after the Civil War, had two children and was killed by a falling log in 1872. He is buried at Bourneville, Ohio. Percy Cochran March and his wife Margaret Sheffey March moved to El Paso around 1911 so Percy Cochran March could work at a large wholesale hardware company. 3. Jane Preston Sheffey b.8-31-1839 d.11-11-1842 third child of Eleanor Preston and Judge James White Sheffey.
4. Elizabeth Madison Sheffey b.7-5-1842 d.5-10-1875 married Albert Pendleton in October 1872. They had one son:
• James Sheffey Pendleton b.11-1874.
5. Ellen White Sheffey b.8-25-1843 d.1-8-1905 married Joseph Brainard Rhea b.4-8-1838 d.7-7-1902 on 10-10-1866. (Brainard or Brainerd ?) They had 4 children:
• James White Sheffey Rhea b.6-6-1869 d.4-9-1917.
• Eleanor Lynn Rhea b.8-7-1871 d.9-2-1927 married first William S. Adams on 12-26-1895 and had 2 children:
• Linwood Adams b.12-14-1896 d.xxxx
• Brainard Rhea Adams b.7-26-1898 d.9-20-1953.

Eleanor Rhea married second Sturm Carson of Atlanta, Ga. No children.

• Margaret Preston Rhea b.1-22-1876 d.8-23-1945 married Henry Boyd Staley b.7-9-1871 d.12-27-1948 on June 23, 1898 and they had 3 children:
• Pauline Hull Staley b.7-8-1900 married L. Preston Collins b.12-25-1896 d.9-20-1952 on 1-2-1926 and had one son:
• L. Preston Collins III b.12-17-1928.
• Ellen Staley b.12-25-1899.
• Henry Staley b.1-5-1903 d.1939.
• Virginia Sheffey Rhea b.7-29-1880 d.11-9-1883.
6. Mary Sheffey b.12-8-1844, sixth child of Eleanor Preston and Judge Sheffey, married her sister Margaret's widower, William E. Peters on July 14, 1873. They had one son:
