The Garlands were originally from Sussex County England, and moved to Wales, then to Virginia in 1635. The eldest brother settled in Richmond Co., VA and John and Edward settled in that part of New Kent County which now comprises Hanover Co. (Sources:Family Bibles, R.A. Edward Garland, the emigrant, married Jane Jennings dau of Mr. Jennings and his wife Cary. Children:

1. Edward Garland b.5-25-1700.
2. Ann Garland * married twice, 1st John Thomson * b.1732 d.xxxx and they had one child, Susanna Thomson * (who married Thomas Tinsley).

Ann Garland married 2nd Edward Sydnor and had issue:
