Matthew Rhea IV b.4-14-1755 d.10-18-1816, son of Rev. Joseph Rhea and Elizbeth McIlwaine. Matthew IV first married Martha Mackey b.ca.1760 in Ireland. Apparently no children. He married on 11-1-1778 Jannette "Jane" Preston b.1758 d.11-1-1800, daughter of John Preston and Eleanor Fairman. They lived in Sullivan County Tennessee near the present town of Bluff City, TN, in an old rock house where the Southern Railway crosses the Holston River. They had four children:

1. Joseph McIlwaine Rhea b.5-14-1787 d.1860) married in 1806 Catherine Myers, daughter of Charles and Annie Case Myers. They had eleven children.
2. Robert Preston Rhea b.6-28-1791 d.1872) married in 1828 Nancy Davidson. They had seven children.
3. Margaret Rhea b.ca.1783 d.xxxx married Abram Fickle. They had one child Robert Preston Fickle.
4. Matthew Rhea V (2/23/1796)(4-10-1870) married on 12/13/1818, Mary Looney of Memphis, Tennessee. They had 13 children.
