William Scott married Frances Stewart (d/o Capt. Charles Stewart and Anne Hamilton, d/o Gustavus Hamilton and Elizabeth Brooke)
of Horn Head House in Northwestern Ireland, their daughter, Margaret
Scott is the common link between the Rhea and Preston families with the
Dysart and Breden(Braden) families. Margaret Scott married first,
Thomas Anderson and they had 3 children:
- Joshua Anderson.
- Thomas Anderson.
- * Frances Anderson b.abt 1710 who married c.1732 Samuel Dysart c.1710 d.1750 in Western Pa. Samuel is believed to be the son of Joseph Dysart and Maria Martin. Samuel Dysart had a possession in the Londonderry area known as Brook Hall. They had 7 children:
- James Dysart
1744-1818 came to America, originally Western Pennsylvania, then moved
on to what is now Abingdon, Va. He married Agnes Nancy Beattie
(~1754-1833) and they had 6 children.
- Margaret Dysart married John Nichol
of Fahan, Co. Donegal. Their sons Josiah and John, immigrated to
America about 1788, settling first near Saltville, Va., before moving
on to Nashville, Tennessee in 1805. This line is the subject of a book,
"Nichol of Nashville, 1689-1989", published in 1990 by Bromfield Nichol. Some members of the family now spell the name Nicholl.
- Nancy Dysart married Samuel Scott, a distant relative.
- Frances (Fanny) Dysart married John McAllister (McAlister).
- Sarah Dysart married 1st Mr. Thompson in Ireland and 2nd a Mr. Holmes in America.
- Jane Dysart married Alexander Ramsey.
- * Elizebeth Dysart c1737 d.10-4-1828
married John Breden 1745-1788 who died in Ireland. They had 8 children
all born in northern Ireland. NOTE: ElizEbeth is spelled that way in
some documents. Bredin, Breden and Braden are shown interchangeably in
records. Tombstones in Weaver Cemetery show BREDEN.
- Polly Breden <1762 married
Robert Johnston on 5-14-1789 in Washington Co. Va. They had 5 children:
James of Claiborne Co. TN, Elizabeth, Robert, John and Mary.
- Frances (Fanny) Breden b.3-17-1764 d.4-13-1850 married Joseph Rhea
b.10-24-1762 d.2-24-1825 on 5-17-1789 s/o Rev. Joseph Rhea in
Washington Co., Va. They lived on Back Creek in Sullivan Co. TN. Both
are buried at Weaver's Cemetery. They had 9 children:

- Margaret Rhea <1791.
- Samuel Rhea <1793.
- John Rhea <1795 who died young.
- Ellen Rhea <1797.
- Frances Rhea <1799.
- Nancy Rhea <1801.

- Sally Rhea <1804.
- Elizabeth Breden b.6-5-1766 d.5-31-1835 married William Rhea
s/o Rev. Joseph Rhea on 6-10-1795 in Washington Co. Va. They lived on
Beaver Creek in Sullivan Co. TN on a farm recently owned by the
Earharts. William Rhea died July 1836 and Elizabeth died in June 1835.
Both are buried at Weaver's Cemetery. They had 7 children.
- Samuel Breden married Jane Johnston on
1-1-1795 in Washingon Co., Va. He lived in Bluff City, TN just beyond
the Beaver Creek crossing, six miles south of Bristol, Tennessee.
Samuel was buried c. 1845 at Avoca, TN. They had 5 children:James,
Nancy, Elizabeth, Frances and Mary Breden.
- James Breden b.10/11/1784
in Castlefinn, Co., Donegal and d. 3/10/1863 near Woodburn, IL.
James married three times, first to Unknown Anderson in Tennessee
about 1805. He lived in White County, TN. The court house
was burned so no records. His first wife died leaving several children.
James then married a younger widow, Mary Davis Gregory in Madison
Co. on July 25, 1827. She was born in Kentucky about 1803 the
daughter of Theodorus Davis and Joanna Grimes. She died in
Calhoun Co., IL on 8/25/1872. Their only child to reach
adulthood was Andrew Jackson Breden, b. Macoupin Co. on 10/7/1830
and died Macoupin Co. 8/9/1896. James then married Cynthia
Ann Neaville, widow of William Barrow. Information on James
supplied by Anton J. Pregaldin of Clayton, MO.
- Margaret Breden married
Matthew Rhea who was a great-nephew or nephew of Rev. Joseph Rhea. They
married on 6-22-1798 in Washington Co., Va. They lived four miles west
of Blountville, Tennessee. Matthew and Margaret were buried on his
farm. They had 6 children:
- Elizabeth Rhea <1799.
- Jane Rhea <1801.
- William Rhea <1803.
- Margaret Rhea <1805.
- Robert Rhea <1807.
- Sally Rhea <1809.
- John Breden married Mary Mackey and had two
children, Mariah and Joseph Rhea, who both died young. He married a
second time to Elizabeth Napier/Napper on 6-23-1785 in Washington Co.
Va.
- *Nancy Breden b.1776 d.1-25-1856 married Samuel Rhea
b.1769 d.12-1-1848, s/o Rev. Joseph Rhea, on 9-24-1801 in Washington
Co., Va. They lived on Muddy Creek in Sullivan Co., TN. Both are buried
at Blountville. They had 7 children: (for details see Samuel Rhea)
- Margaret P. Rhea ca.1802-1846 m. Wendell Strum.
- Elizabeth Rhea 1803-1876 m. Thomas Crawford.
- John Nancy Rhea 1805-1876 m. Ruth M. Rockhold.
- Frances 'Fanny' Rhea 1809-1891.
- Dr. Joseph S. Rhea 1812-1886 m. Saraphina L. Williams.
- Jane Nancy Rhea 1813-1876 (my great grandmother) married John Fairman Preston.
- Ellen Rhea 1815- m. Washington Montgomery.
After Thomas Anderson died, Margaret Scott married secondly John McIlwaine (McElwane). They had three children:
- William McIlwaine married Nancy McElwane ???
- Margaret McIlwaine married John Guinn.

born ~1732 d.12-19-1793 married Rev. Joseph Rhea
in about 1752 in Ireland. Elizabeth was of Liffannau, near Londonderry,
county of Donegal. McIlwaines and Rheas were both Presbyterian. They
came to this country and eventually reached Sullivan County, Tennessee
which is just across the Virginia border. Two of the Rhea children, Matthew and Margaret, married Robert and Jane Preston, brother and sister married brother and sister.
