Elizabeth Preston 1762-1837
Smithfield Prestons

Elizabeth Preston b.5-31-1762 d.2-4-1837, first child of William Preston and Susanna Smith, married William Madison (1753-1782) on 1-1-1778 at Smithfield. They had two daughters:

1. Susanna Preston Madison b.10-13-1780 d.7-15-1820 married John Howe Peyton, a lawyer in Staunton, Va. in 1802. He was Chief of Staff to General Porterfield in the War of 1812. They had one son:(John Howe Peyton married 2nd Anne Montgomery Lewis)
• William (Madison or Preston) Peyton b.9-2-1814 d. xxxx married Miss Sally Taylor and they had 8 children, of whom:
• Susan M. Peyton married Joseph Howard White and secondly Col. Washington of North Carolina.
• Sally T. Peyton married Thomas Read and secondly Dr. James T. L. White of Abingdon, Va. who became a member of the Confederate Congress.
2. Agatha Strother Madison b.7-17-1782 d.xxxx, second daughter of Elizabeth Preston and William Madison, married Garnett Peyton on 2-7-1801, brother of John Howe Peyton. They had 5 children:
• William Preston Peyton (1816-1891) married Sarah Elizabeth Munford in 1848 and they had 8 children. One of their children, Agatha Garnett Peyton, married Walter Preston, son of John M. Preston I.
• Benjamin Howard Peyton married Mrs. Ellis, dau. of Col. William Munford of Richmond and afterward resided in Missouri.
• James Madison Peyton.
• John Rowzee Peyton.
• Ann Frances Peyton.
