BIOGRAPHY: John Lewis Caster was considered a great soldier by all those who knew him. He fought in the Mexican War, and enlisted in the Civil War. Those who know him said that he was as good a striker with the hand as any man they knew. He also noted for his singing ability. At some point in the Civil War he had his little finger shot off in battle, and died at Vicksburg on or near the 4th of October 1863.
