a SNIPPET ABOUT MYSELF

Sigi was born in Ulm, Germany as Sieglinde Elisabeth Horsch.  She received her basic education in Ulm.  Her interest in art was apparent during her school years and as a young adult.  One could find her sitting under a tree on the banks of the Danube river sketching portraits of movie stars, sports activities or studying art books.

In 1970 she moved to the US, and in 1971 became a US Citizen.  In the same year, her husband was transferred to the Azores.  There she had the great opportunity to participate in painting lessons by retired Portuguese Professor of Art, Dr. Dias.  His influence and guidance inspired her painting.  After return to the US, living for one year in Indiana, she continued painting in oil attending art classes.  In 1974 they left the service and settled in picturesque New Hampshire.  Sigi accepted a position at the University of New Hampshire.  Besides a full time career and family life with her husband and two beautiful sons, she had the opportunity to study fine arts and photography.  She continued painting in oil and pastel and also immersed herself in photography

In 1995 Sigi married her new found love Jonathan, an Austinite, and in 1998 they moved to Georgetown, Texas.  There she continued with her painting, mostly in the media of pastel.  For details how the series 'Icons of Jazz' was born go to Beginnings.
