Greetings from Larry!

2018 : Out with the Old and in with the New!

Leaving my office on May 31, 2018, my last offical work day before retirement.

With Will and Lloyd at a Texas Rangers game, which has become something of a tradition. The Rangers lost, but we had a great time.

With Dr. Michael Tidwell, President of the University of Texas At Tyler

In August, I was notified that I had been named "Professor Emeritus," which is an honor based on years of service and contribution to the University. The only real "perk" that comes with it is that I get to keep my university e-mail address!

In November, I made my annual trip with my friend Don. This year we went to Las Vegas, with side trips to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, the Hoover Dam, and Zion National Park, in Utah. We also got to see our friend Steve Grubaugh, whom I have known since we worked together at the University of New Orleans, over 30 years ago.

In the words of John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans." As I was planning my trip to Las Vegas, I didn't realize that my insides were busy planning their revolt. While in Las Vegas, I started experiencing some issues with my breathing. I hoped it would get better after I returned to Tyler. However, after being home from Las Vegas for less than 24 hours, I got to take an ambulence ride from my house to the hospital, where I stayed for three days. It turns out that I had lost a lot of blood from internal bleeding caused by some stomach ulcers (that I didn't know I had). Because of the bleeding, my heart went into AFib, which caused me not to be able to breathe. As this is being written, I am still dealing with the AFib and still having some breathing problems. I am hopeful, though, that my new doctors will be able get me back to where I was before all of this started.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas!!

As we head into the Holiday season, our thoughts turn to our family and friends. We wish you health and happiness in 2019.
