12/30/2006 Results from the End of the Year Tournament

25 Players showed up to do battle in the NDPT End of the Year Hold 'em Tournament 2006.  When the dust settled...and the chips fell where they may...FRANK WOLFE emerged victorious for the night!!!  Remarkably the blinds were at an unbelievable level when the tournament was heads up at $3,000/$6,000!!!  The tournament lasted longer than I or anyone else had expected.  Not that there were complaints, just that the play for the night was remarkable by all.  Thank you ALL for your cooperation in making the tournament such a success.

Results are as follows:

1st-Frank Wolfe $473, 2nd-Brian Murray $293, 3rd-Brian Sims $180, 4th-Russell $112, 5th-Robert Riordan-$67, 6th-TJ Sellers $50

Here are a few pictures courtesy of JR, for your enjoyment:

See you next year!!!

12/15/2006 Results from "Ho-Ho-Hold 'Em"

"Ho-Ho-Hold 'Em"was held on December 15th, 2006 @ 7:00pm...and a great many important things occurred.

TJ Sellers won the NDPT Cup Championship for 2006, finishing with 185 points for the year!  Congratulations, and enjoy your entry into the Year-End-Tournament on December 30th!  You'll be happy to know that this one offers NO REBUYS!!!  :)  See below for the final points standings for 2006!

Chris Layfield won the December 15th Tournament, besting the field of 22 players for the night.

And last but not least Eric Pugh walked away with a huge payout, for LOSING when he took down the Bad Beat Jackpot, when Jerry busted his Ace High flush, with a Full House.  Congratulations, on a $225-ish prize!

Results are as follows:

1st-Scott Layfield, 2nd-Matt Hensley, 3rd-Brian Murray, 4th-Teresa "BIG RED" Murray, 5th-Sam McLain, 6th-Robert Riordan

TABLES!!!  Really hot topic.  Dick's Sporting Goods had nice poker tables on sale as part of Black Friday!!!  And Big Red's Delivery Service went into action!  She drove all the way to South Charleston, and brought back 1 for our house...and 2 MORE for the Shuman clan.  In fact, we took them to him that night and played a pretty big cash game.  Everyone loved 'em.  In fact JR, drove down the following day and picked up 5 MORE of them, for various individuals.  So, I think we should never be looking for a table ever again.  Kudos to Mr. Yanok for spotting these tables a while back at Dick's.  And to Vic, for accidently picking up the Charleston paper on Thanksgiving, thereby putting the advertisement in front of me!

11/17/2006 Results from the November 17th tourney

As always thanks to everyone for another fantastic game.  We had a total of 25 players AGAIN for this one!  Also, I would have posted the results information a lot earlier, but WORK has really been in the way lately.  That, and I had a small discrepancy in the spreadsheet to work out.  Of all the trouble makers it could have been, it had to do with Julie Miller and where she finished at in the tournament!!!  Chris and I finally got our heads together, and pieced it all back together.   Lucky for me Big Red went on a "spinning" run the night of the tourney to bring the night out on the plus side.  :)  Anyway, here's who got paid:

1st-Erik Pugh, 2nd-John Johnson, 3rd-Frank Wolfe, 4th-Matt Jackson, 5th-Eric Shuman, 6th-Laura Brothers

As for the NDPT points race, I believe that I can safely say now that it is down to 5 people in the running for the top spot.  TJ is still hanging on to the lead at 170 points Erik P. has moved in to 2nd place with 162 points JJ is now in the 3rd spot with 157.  I am right on his heels with 154 (after a dismal showing in the last tourney.) AND rounding out the top 5 is Matt B. with 147 points.  The maximum points a player can earn in a 25 player game is 33 points.  So, all things considered it is still a close race, with only 23 points separating the field.  This one is down to the wire folks.  Don't miss the last "regular season" game on December 15th!  And then of course the BIG GAME on December 30th!

And finally thanks to Andy...here are some pictures from the last game.  Which I'm sure will be used as evidence at some future date!

10/13/2006 Results from the October 13th tourney, Friday the 13th!

Thanks to everyone who showed up to make yet another great, successful tournament!  We had a total of 25 players for this one.  Hope everyone enjoyed the pizzas this time, and along those lines, if anyone is having a problem with chipping in a buck for some foodstuffs at the games, then let me know.  But the impression that I'm getting is that everyone's belly appreciates it.  This game has always been very social, and I think the food, along with the alcohol which is always flowing, will help to keep it that way.  BUT, if you object...let me know.  There were some VERY UNCHARACTERISTIC exits from the tournament.  And the leaderboard experienced some shuffling as a result.  Here's the list of those who GOT PAID!!!:

 1st-Matt Post, 2nd-Brian Murray, 3rd-Teresa Murray, 4th-Del Minturn, 5th-Ron Bucholtz, 6th-Julie Miller

See below for the updated points list.

09/16/2006 Results from the September 16th tourney

Thanks to everyone who showed up to make yet another great, successful tournament!  We had a total of 26 players for this one.  The wife even brought out the food again.  Here's the list of those who GOT PAID!!!:

 1st-Matt Jackson, 2nd-Erik Pugh, 3rd-Del Minturn, 4th-Brian Yanok, 5th-Matt Hensley, 6th-Jim Blankenship

See below for the updated points list.

09/03/2006 Results from the September 3rd, "unsanctioned" tourney!

Last minute...a tournament was thrown together at the extreme urging of Big Red.  Regardless of the fact that it was hastily thrown together, we had 23 players!  Thank goodness we have a Tournament Director.  Kudos Chris Brothers, for keeping us all on the straight and narrow.  This was NOT a points event, since it was a pick up game, and not announced in advance.  But hey, it was still a good time.  Here's how it all panned out:

1st-Steve Allman, 2nd-Laura "Nobody puts baby in a corner" Brothers, 3rd-Joe Jackson, 4th-Jeff Morrison, 5th-Teresa "BIG RED" Murray!!!

Points of interest, etc...

My pocket Cowboys, ran into JR's pocket rockets..."we gotta REBUY over here...and whew...this ain't no points game!"

Laura tired and weary, appeared at times to fall into calling station mode, but it was all just a clever ploy.  She brought her "A" Game!

Teresa made the final table and got PAID!

Joe Jackson took a bad beat, (although, we weren't competing for THE bad beat) when he called my All-in, post flop.  I turned over my Cowboys again, showing two pair (Kings and Jacks.)  He called on the nutflush draw.  He hit the nutflush, but unfortunately the turn brought me the Full House.  That was truly a bad beat.

Big Red doesn't like Merlot!

The hot dog sauce was NOT too spicy.

JJ got to play anyway.

Even Scott Miller came out of retirement for this game!

I hope you all had a great time...and we'll do it again real soon!

08/18/2006 Results from the August 18th Tournament

Congratulations to Randy Church for besting the field of 21 players who showed up.  Randy, Ryan Russell and Eric Shuman (a.k.a. The Crew) knocked out the competion until just the 3 of them remained to battle it out for the top spot.  Money winners were as follows:

1st-Randy Church, 2nd-Ryan Russell, 3rd-Eric Shuman, 4th-Steve Allman, 5th-Matt Hensley...and the Bubble Boy was John Johnson.

The tournament was certainly an interesting one.  Many have remarked on many of the unusual events for the evening.  Let me recap a few of them here:

I got felt up, repeatedly, and think I'm a C-cup.
BIG bottle of wine..."Big Red...was that Sutter Home?"
Lotsa Rockets
Matt's drinkin' WATER?!?
Andy goes out on hand #3?
Some of us...lost time...money...and memory
Gratuitous spillage
Dogshit...'nuff said

I can't wait to do it all AGAIN!

07/08/2006 Results from the July 8th Tournament

Congratulations AGAIN to Matt Jackson, for his first place finish.  There's a thing or two about playing poker to be learned from him, I'd wager!  There's a lot of neck and neck action in the points race.

Money winners for the night were:

1st-Matt Jackson, 2nd Matt Bumgarner, 3rd-JR Ruble, 4th-Erik Pugh, 5th-Drew McLain

The top 10 in the points race looks like this now:

TJ Sellers 98
Brian Murray 93
Erik Pugh 93
Matt Bumgarner 93
Andy Cremeans 86
Drew McLain 86
John Johnson 79
Laura Brothers 78
Scott Duliere 77
Del Minturn 70

The missed games do appear to have an impact on standings...(sorry Andy!)

06/17/2006 Results from the June 17th Tournament

Congratulations to Matt Jackson for walking away with the top prize at the June 17th Tournament.  A lot of newbies attended that night, and we were glad to have you on board.  My hopes were high for the night, with 2 of the top 5 points leaders being absent.  For me, it was an opportunity to move up.  Well I did move into 3rd place, but I had hoped for a lot more.  I have my wife to thank for that I guess.  My All-In with pocket Queens, failed to hold up, when she caught a King to boost her "Big Slick" over the top.  She was leery of playing at all, but I think she did just fine.  Someone else...please encourage her!

Money winners for the night were:

1st-Matt Jackson, 2nd-Del Minturn, 3rd-Jodi Jackson, 4th-Drew McLain, 5th-Sam McLain...

With the exception of Del, it looked a little like a family affair!

The top 10 in the points race looks like this now:

Andy Cremeans 86
TJ Sellers 78
Brian Murray 75
Erik Pugh 69
Laura Brothers 66
John Johnson 65
Matt Bumgarner 65
Drew McLain 64
Scott Duliere 64
Sam McLain 61

Full points information is listed below in the chart.

So, it's still anybody's ballgame folks.  We are halfway through the year, another 6 tournaments left before the Main Event at the end of the year.  So everyone needs to continue to bring their "A" GAME!

05/20/2006 Results from the May 20th Tournament

Congratulations to all who attended, and some of you with very little notice at ALL!  I had originally planned for 24 players, but some unforeseen conflicts thinned the herd by a bit, but we still ended up with 22 in all.  Thanks to TJ for calling his brother and sister-in-law.  Glad to have them, hope they come back.  The Riordan's as well brought some family along with them, hope they had a great time!  Scott D walked away with the top spot for the night, followed up by Del and then Matt B.  This outcome really shook up the points standings, narrowing the gap in some places, and widening it in others.  Other news, we later went on to close down Don Emilio's that night, when some of the night owls (cough) Big Red (cough) decided we should go!  Oh and if anyone knows could you let me know about the following:  Someone mentioned something about a "queerie-acting" guy at the game.  Now I'm not sure who they were talking about.  (I have my suspicions,) but I don't know that they've come out of the closet just yet.  But we'll be there as your support group when the time comes.  Glad everyone liked the Nevada Jacks chips I hope.  For the next game, assuming that UPS gets them here in time, we'll all be playing with the plastic Copag cards next tournament.  I for one am looking forward to it already.  The current points standings are at the bottom of the page!

05/06/2006 Results from the Blankenship Tournament

Congratulations to all of you who played and placed in Jim's tournament on May 6th.  Sorry I could not make it!

Final word from Jim for the season:

"Tournament Results:
1st Barry $150 He also took the bad beat money (about $45) and the bounty (about $12)... for the triple-crown.
2nd Chad 75 Both Barry and Chad had 16,000 of 20,000 of the chips in play. Their head-to-head play took more than one hour.
3rd Eric S. 45 He cried about his bad beat from Barry until he went home.
4th Chris 30 He played very well with this limited tournament experience.

Other Trivia:
15 players participated with 5 re-buys creating a total cash pool of $300.
Scott & Pam Duliere both made it to the final table. Good job!
Del took a break from his internet play to join the real word. I think he came in 5th, just out of the money.
The diamond-table had several full-house hands in the first hour of play. One of these was head-to-head giving Barry the bad beat pool. I guess that table was pretty crazy.
Lastly, I will be closing up for the summer, allowing Eric Shuman to start his garage tournaments. I plan to resume play when it gets cold again in the fall. Thanks for coming!"

Other news not to be forgotten...

Rumor has it that Eric Shuman is going to be pulling the trigger on his Summer Tournament Series. It's going to be a great season.
Andy and Carrie just found out they're going to be parents! Congrats kids! Oh and Carrie, honey, I wasn't kidding about what the tattoo has to say. Talk about being appropriate
"Who's yer daddy!"

04/21/2006 Results from the "Cards by Candlelight" Tournament

Andy Cremeans pulled off the BIG WIN for the night, and what shall be henceforth known as the "Cards By Candlelight" Tournament.  The tournament got off to a rocky start, when just before the first card hit the table, the power went out to the whole area, and what seemed like half of the town.  We made due with candles and flashlights.  Thanks all for putting up with a major inconvenience, and still making it a great time.  What impressed me most, was that no one even considered stopping.  GAME ON!  What a bunch of die hards, or at least misfits.  That puts he and TJ tied for first in the points race.  Erik and I (occupying the next two spots) are saving ourselves for a final sprint...be afraid...be VERY AFRAID!  The bounty was on JJ, and Andy took that down as well.  JJ if you dare a man to call, sometimes he really will.  Scott Duliere took down 2nd place for the night, but more importantly, suffered the bad beat, his boat sunk by a bigger one, and so he took the Bad Beat Jackpot which had grown to a whopping $105!  Congratulations...guess I won't be using that money to pay the electric bill.

03/18/2006 Results from the March 18th, 2006 Tournament

Sam McLain is the comeback kid!  After getting knocked out first, only to rebuy...Sam was able to parlay that into a first place tournament finish.  CONGRATS!  John Johnson, a recent return to the poker fold took down the second spot.  All I got to say about that...and borrowing a quote I once heard in a movie...

"Hey...at least your ROUNDIN' again."  :)

All the rest of the results are posted below, as well as current points standings.  Erik Pugh is our current NDPT Cup Points Leader.

03/04/2006 Thanks to Jim Blankenship for hosting Saturday, March 4, 2006, 6:00PM

This was a non-points event, but the MONEY still spends the same!  All 25 of us had a BLAST.  Thanks JIM!!! Hope the wife lets us all come back again real soon!

Eric Shuman walked away with the top SPOT!!!  The hand of the night had to be Eric (then short stacked) going all-in with AQ suited, with 2 callers, one holding AKos, and the other holding Pocket Rockets!  Eric snagged his DIAMOND flush to take down a monster pot at the final table!

(I finished a mere 2nd, and to think BigRed wasn't even gonna let me go...)

02/17/2006 Results from February 17th, 2006 Tournament

I guess I get to pat myself on the back...I won!!!  I've never seen so many good starting hands before.  The real story of the night however was Courtney.  How many times can one person have Kings and Fours and win with them?!!!  The poker gods were surely smiling down on her.  I hope everyone had a great time, and we'll do it again in a month.

See below for current standings in the points race.

01/21/2006 Results from January 21st, 2006 Tournament

The big winner of the FIRST Tournament of 2006, was Andy Cremeans!!! Andy's domination of the tournament was incredible!!Among the hands of note, he tripled up with a straight flush (he was holding only one of the cards!)  I personally witnessed him hit 3 full houses IN A ROW! Must be all that good clean living. Anyway Great Job!

Special thanks to Chris Brothers, who kept us ALL on the straight and narrow path, and kept the game moving right along.

See below for current standings in the points race.

01/21/2006 Next Tournament Date Announced

Not one to sit back and rest on my laurels for long, the next Card Night and the FIRST of 2006, will be Saturday, January 21st at 6:00pm.  This will be a $15+1+1 (with 1 rebuy) night.   True to my word, I'm going to plan on "at least" 1 tournament per month on the third week of the month.  I will try to alternate between Fridays and Saturdays, since there are scheduling conflicts from time to time.  There may be last minute games that I throw together as well, with the wife's approval of course (luv ya, mean it dear!)

NDPT Cup Championship Points

True to my word, I'm going to try and have a points system for this year.  The prize will be bragging rights, and free entry into the Year End Hold 'em Event, which will probably be a $50 event again this year.  I may also have a Tournament of Champions night for the top points finishers. (I'm still working it all out in my head.)  Points will work as follows:  Take the number of players and flip flop the numbers. In addition, award the top 8 finishers with bonus points for making the final table. This will award more points for beating more people. In a week with 21 players the winner of that week doesn't get the same amount of points as the winner of a week with 25 players. You should get more points for beating more people.  Simple enough?  Here are the current standings:
