Carawan Family Photos - the 50s page 1

Note that some of these could be from the 40s (and probably are). I don't have any real way of knowing exactly WHEN these were taken, but the 50's seemed to be the heyday of my grandmother's photography. And why not! Her kids were growing up!
I haven't really set out to put these any any particular order, either...that would be a nightmare since I don't know dates. As usual, if you can help me with people, places, or times here, feel free to email me. Enjoy!

My Father, Charles Carawan. This is a newspaper publicity photo from a Tideland EMC contest of some sort that Dad said he was the only one chosen from the state of North Carolina to participate in. A '50s Olan Mills photo of my grandfather Doc Carawan.

Dad again, in his high school basketball days, c. 1959. This is a good one! On the left is Clifton Squires Sr., who married Fannie Harris after Gus Sr. died. On the right is Gus Ange Jr., his stepson and my great grandfather. Taken sometime in the early 50s in the Anges' yard at Wilkinson Station.

Arnie Bell and Nellie Ange at a wedding (whose?) at the Wilkinson Church. Arnie Bell's husband, Noel Levy. Not sure whose house that is...it's possibly in Slidell LA, since that's where they lived.

Loris Warren Waters (12 Feb 1927-3 Apr 1993) and his wife Nadine, c. 1955. Loris was the son of David Warren Waters and Lydia Mable Cutler. The Buick pictured belongs to Viola "Odie" Waters, David's sister.

On the left is Bill Ange. Not sure who the gentleman is on the right, but the back of the photo states his name is Clifton (Squires maybe?). Betty Carawan Evans (9/20/1897-12/7/1983)

School picture of Billy Gene Carawan, a son of my great uncle Harvey Murl Carawan. School picture of Roy Jarvis Carawan. But is this Sr. or Jr.? I'm guessing Jr.

Lloyd Augustus Fentress, son of Lloyd Columbus Fentress and Ernestine "Teenie" Ange, as a young man. Patricia "Pat" Ange, daughter of Dempsey Maryland "Bill" and Mamie Ann Tetterton Ange.

Arnie Bell Ange, in the yard of the Ange House. Another great uncle, Staton Carawan (23 Aug 1901-21 Mar 1962). Staton had what was believed to be cerebral palsy, and never married. I believe this was taken on the porch of the old Carawan house in Rose Bay.
