Obituary appeared in the Chetek Alert, May 25, 1972 George E. Henderson George E. Henderson was born June 12, 1897, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Greeley Henderson, in Fillmore County, Minn. He moved to Barron County, Wis., in 1919, and settled some wild land that had been owned and logged by his grandfather years before. In 1921, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Ayewski at Strickland, Wis. Five children were born to this union. He operated a farm eleven miles north of Chetek for 27 years. He served on the Town Board and on the School Board. In 1946 he moved to the City of Chetek where he was a carpenter, a part-time mail carrier, and a custodian for the City School System. He served as Assessor for the City of Chetek for 18 years. Mr. Henderson passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 11, 1972, at the age of 74 years, in Ft. Myers, Fla, where he and his wife had spent the winter. He was preceded in death by one daughter in 1934, one sister, and his parents. He is survived by his wife Mary, two sons, Donald of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Robert of Marietta, Ga., two daughters, Ruby Humer of New Berlin, Wis., and Evelyn Henderson of Chicago, Ill., seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, and five sisters. Funeral services were held May 16 at the United Methodist Church of Chetek with the Rev. Howard Lindsay officiating. Interment was in the Lake View Cemetery, Chetek. The Burnham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Among relatives here to attend the funeral were his children, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henderson and son Robyn of Marietta, Ga., Miss Evelyn Henderson of Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. William Humer, Cheryl and Gregory, and Jay and his wife Elaine Humer, of New Berlin, and Gina Meeker and daughter Paetra Meeker, of New Berlin, a cousin Marian Bergman and daughter of Ashland; Mrs Henderson's sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Murzak, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cygan, Mr and Mrs. Stanley Baran, all of Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gronski, daughter Sandra, and sons Joey and Jerome and their wives; a niece and nephew Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bartyzel of Chicago; Mr. Henderson's nephews, Tommy and Ricky Lundberg of Minneapolis; and his five sisters, Ethel Henderson from Alaska, Nina Henderson of Lime Springs, Iowa, Jessie Turbenson of Ostrander, Minn., Irene Zebaugh from Spring Valley, Minn., and Gladys Williams from Lime Springs, Iowa.
