Although the odd cough I have has abated somewhat, it still continues, but I may be brave enough to venture underneath my house and finish up the work with leveling the floor. Well, it’s not exactly ‘leveling’ in the true word, but the floor is definitely less ‘wavy’ than it was before I started. So maybe we can call it ‘more flat’. Doorframes are actually rectangular again vs. trapezoidal. So I’m staying at the house tonight with hopes of getting an early start on it tomorrow. Weather is supposed to be almost warm after a low tonight in the 20s. So I’m sitting here with gas heaters cranked up as I type. I’d have an impressive gas bill if I stayed down here in the winter any more than the occasional weekend. Once I finish the leveling work, I expect to finish up rewiring the electricity downstairs. Yes, I get to complete the work that a contractor left incomplete. Last time was a roof, but this time I will say that subject contractor wasn’t at fault for not finishing the job. Report on my progress is to come. Next topic; my band’s next gig is at the Steel Penny Pub on 13 Feb 09. Hope to see you there. I’ll get some info about ‘The Flinchers’ on my bands web page when I bring it back up. I took that page down after the ‘munky fiasco’ last summer and I was left not playing in any bands for awhile. You may also check out my band at their myspace.com web link. Well I’ve got more to talk about, but I’d better wrap it up for the night. Stay tuned.

Nancy's aunt passed away about one week and a few hours into the New Year. So, Nancy plans to start the New Year after all that is taken care of. Kind of a rough start, at best. My band 'The Flinchers' played to a noisy and appreciative full house at Kimbo's Saloon a couple weeks ago. We then played to a sparse but still appreciative crowd at the Oasis last Saturday. My lousy cough returned en-mass yesterday and I missed today at work. May need to hit the doc-in-the-box again. Bleah! On some better notes, our church is working on a number of things such as the affirmation for being an ONA church in the UCC. I have updated the web site with where we are on it now. I've sort of been the acting webmaster for these folks. It's been a learning curve, especially with getting Google to notice us. Yes, I still edit this stuff with Notepad, but I may need to upgrade soon. Best news of this past week is, as the T-shirt said "01/20/2009 - The End of an Error". On the day before I stopped in the small grocery store in Christoval and the old guy at the checkout was watching CNN's pre inaugural hype. He ventured to say "Looks like we're going to have a coon in the White House." I was taken aback a little by that well used ethnic slur in these parts, but the guy seemed to mean it humorously and expressed his guarded best wishes for President Obama. So I cheerily replied "Yep, I'll bet he's heard that one before" and left with my bottle of Gatorade. Our new president definitely has his hands full, but I feel a lot more optimistic about our country than I have in a long time.

I am typing here in the wee hours of the first day of 2009 after a quiet New Year's Eve celebration with Nancy. No gig, so I can relax, more or less. Funky Munky is playing tonight in Del Rio at the country club that Kevin recently acquired. I hope they do well, but it's kind of nice for me not to be messing with the logistical stress. Not sure I miss it quite yet. So the stress is different this time since Nancy's aunt is in the hospital and wasn't doing very well. Her aunt does seem to be improving now. But that kind of put a crimp in plans for New Year's Eve. Nancy is sitting with her aunt in the wee hours of this morning and I am on standby in case I'm needed to do anything. I still gotta say that in spite of the glitches of 2008, this last year has been much better to us than 2007 ever was. Still there were highs and lows. Some lows were my parting ways with the Munky and worse, the misunderstandings I had with the parents on getting my Menard house fixed up. But we'll get there. I'm on board with a new band as well and we hope to get a CD out soon. We are still here and are doing okay. On a more national scope things are looking up with the new elected administration coming into power and sorting out the mess the last one had left. Personally, I still have to write my New Year's resolution, but I am working on it. In the meantime I want to wish all reading this blog a happy, prosperous, healthy and peaceful 2009.
