It is time to get at least one more blog posted this quarter before I archive another sparcely filled quarter's worth of blogs. Namely two so far. It has been a great Christmas Day out here at the ranch. Also got the wi-fi working again (which may be why you should be reading this soon). Firewall setting was the culprit in main computer doing the internet sharing, of all things. I've had enough fun with firewall problems at the office thank you. But it was a fine Christmas for us here. Got a few new toys which I'll mention later on. The parents seemed happy with what all they got as well. What blew my mind was this quilt that Nancy had been working on, using material pieces my mom gave her some time back. She completed the top of that quilt last year, and presented it to me for Christmas. So this year it is now a completed quilt thanks to some help from a quilt place in Brady. So there it was when I opened this big present from Nancy at the ranch today. Mom said she'll take it if I don't want it. Tough to follow that. Band gigs have been going mostly well with the exception of that Coleman gig I mentioned in my last blog as my expectations were contrary to the actual outcome (pathetic attendence). We played at this musical fest in Ft McKavett on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We had a moderate crowd, most of whom stuck around for the whole day even up to when we finished out the night. I will call this gig 'Smoked at Ft. McKavett' since there were three fire pits upwind of the stage. My bass rig smelled of smoke for a couple weeks afterwards but it was a fun gig. There's still folks around here wanting me to do the Georgia Satalites song from the Lonnie Bar's Band days nearly twenty years ago, so we broke that one out. Did this all for my cousin Pete who is battling cancer. We are booked next week at Kimbo's Saloon for New Year's Eve. I hope that one will be moderatly crazy but fun. There's several more gigs in the new year to include two at Steel Penny. Also I should be able to keep my job into the next year since I passed my CompTIA Security + exam back in October. It's a nice credential to have, but all that money being paid to take these exams is suggestive of some type of racket. But if it makes some deserving person's Christmas better I may be hip on it for the moment. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Here we are more than two weeks into the next quarter and I am just now catching my blogs up. Got the last quarter archived. That was quite easy compared to tackling this godawful mess I've had for a desk over the last several months. It was time to do something about it, such as 'archive' old stuff -the shredder was busy. I can actually see the top of the desk again after several days' work. Imagine the comic strip Shoe and that will give some idea of how bad this desk had become. I forwent plans to do something else this evening as it was time to get it done. Unfortunately I was able to uncover enough things (like the computer) to be able to pay bills again. Speaking of computers, I am up and running again with a new laptop and was able to salvage nearly all of my files out of the old one post crash. I guess it helps doing this shtuff for a living. The office managed to have a crash occur in spades last weekend. A software update push (not of our origin either) managed to wipe hard drives and crash a couple hundred of our workstations. It was several very busy days getting systems rebuilt and useable so that we could keep the doors open. So my question is who needs terrorism when incompetence can do the job quite nicely. No further comment at this point. The 11 Sep 09 Sealey Flats gig went quite well, even though Ed couldn't make it to that one (stomach bug, I can well understand). We've played there twice since that gig. At the last one we had both Ed and Kevin, an amazing sax player. Both Ed and Kevin had some really cool improv going. I hope we can hear the recording soon. Next gig is in Coleman, which is one of these big motorcycle rallies. To say the least I think we'll break out 'Born to be Wild'. Should be a crazy gig. Stay tuned for a report in a subsequent blog entry.
