BERN CENTURY CYCLISTS
Eastern North Carolina
This website has but one purpose: To encourage cyclists of all ages in the New Bern NC area to cycle a Century trip and to give recognition to those that have done so.
Why? So we can get cyclists together for monthly Century trips weather permitting. Having a large group of cyclists makes the trip easier and more enjoyable. If you've never ridden with a group of riders it's time for you to discover something new about cycling.
What's a Century trip?
Why ride a Century? Because of the challenge! The mere thought of being on a bike for some 5 to 8 hours impresses sedentary folks but anyone can ride a Century who is healthy and prepares for it. I'm 84 (Aug 2013) and have cycled 57 Century trips since age 67. It's great fun and excellent aerobic exercise. Overweight? You'll burn several thousand calories each trip!
What does one need to do to prepare for a Century? Cycle, cycle cycle! The more you cycle on a routine basis the easier it is to ride a Century. If after riding your bike for 10 miles your legs are sore you're obviously not ready for a 100 miles. You should be able to knock off at least 25 miles with no pain before attempting 100.
Do I need a special bike? It's going to be hard pedaling an old one-speed heavy bike with fat tires but I'm not going to put down any bike except to say that the trip will be much easier and faster if you have a lightweight roadbike. What's a roadbike? You won't find one at Wal-Mart. It's a bike with a lightweight alloy, aluminum or carbon fiber frame, drop handlebars and very skinny tires (appx. 700mm x 23mm). Prices start in the hundreds and go to the thousands. Many folks have popular mountain bikes nowadays. They'll make the 100 miles but they won't keep up with roadbikes. You guessed it! I'm a roadbike nut...
Why join the NBCC? It costs nothing and simply places you on an e-mail list to be notified when a Century or any other shorter trip is planned so that you may join the group. It also permits you to send messages to all members by addressing your message to nbcc2@XXXalways-online.com (remove XXX). Send your request to Dave Wallace at davewallace@XXXsuddenlink.net (remove XXX). The e-mail list will be sent only to members that are on it.
Where does a Century trip go? Wherever you or a member that plans the trip wants it to go. The monthly trips that we were taking when this webpage was started departed from River Bend and went to Trenton, then to Beulaville where we had breakfast or lunch at Hardees or McDonalds. After lunch we cycled to Fountaintown, Catherine Lakes, Richlands, Trenton and back to River Bend. See mileage chart you can print out. Besides lunch we usually took about 4 short rest stops at stores along the way. Ordinarily we departed on a Sunday morning at 8 AM and returned by 3:30 PM. Saddle time was around 6 1/2 hours with the remaining time for lunch and rest stops. Average overall saddle speed usually ranged from 14.5 -16.5 mph depending on the wind. A group of cyclists always make better time by taking turns "pulling the group" while others draft behind. You'll be surprised at the difference drafting makes. Nowadays, cyclists purchase GPS computers for their bike and send in data and maps on their Century trips.
How can I be added to the Century Trip Recognition list? It's easy, provided you live in the vicinity of New Bern NC where you'll be able to cycle with us occasionally. Just complete a Century trip and have it verified by another member or send in your GPS computer data. Send your request to Dave Wallace at davewallace@XXXsuddenlink.net(remove XXX). As you complete more Century trips send in update info. (By the way it is not the intent of this web page to record century trips of cyclists all over the country)

Hi Dave,
Writing to you from appx 25,000 feet. Im on my way back from Texas after my participation in the 500 mile Texas RAAM Challenge that started and ended in Castroville near San Antonio. No, I didn’t ride 500 miles, only 125. Once again I did this w a group of four riders in a relay format along with four support crew spread amongst two support vehicles. We each took turns riding “all out” for 20 minute pulls for 27 hours and 10 minutes. We were first overall by 2 hours! Everything went just about flawlessly. Added bonus, my son who lives outside of Houston was one of the riders! He just began riding a year ago after crewing the same event for his mom last year!! He absolutely crushed it!! And, he’s doing his first full Ironman next month! Anyway, we had a strong contingent from NC; the other two riders were from Jacksonville and Winston-Salem. 3 of the four crew are also from our state! Here’s a pic of the RAAM van “Bubba” in action and the link to my 12th century this year.
Thanks Dave. Carol Beliveau 3/23/2019

Hi Dave,
Wow, what a gorgeous day! I was originally planning to do a shorter ride later in the afternoon after I ran some errands in New Bern, but, quickly decided most of that could wait! Took care of a little business there as quickly as I could and high-tailed it home, after all there was virtually no wind and the temps were downright cozy! That was until I threw a leg over the bike! Of course the wind started to blow, pretty strong in fact but, it's never unexpected out here. Met up with Chuck Lee on his fixie for several miles, he is preparing for another race across the U.S. that starts the end of May! So, other than a lot of work turning the cranks, a booger of a knee and one temperamental dog, the day was terrific and it even ended with a smiling pig! Totally made my day. Number 13 of 2018.
Thanks Dave, Carol Beliveau 4/4/2019
Two days, 2 Centuries for Carol Beliveau.
Hiya!
Glad to hear you're back! We missed you! ;) Got out on the road today and yesterday making the best of this mostly gorgeous weather! So, as you know, yesterday the wind was absolutely screaming from the west after that nasty front came through (I thought we were going to lose our roof for awhile there) and there was just no way I was going to punish myself with that - I don't mind dealing with "normal" headwind but yesterdays was simply ridiculous. So, I took my butt to Smithfield, parked the truck and took off. Needless to say, most of the ride was silly fast and so much fun, I would do it again in a second. I stayed on quiet, beautiful backroads with a route that was part of the now defunct "Double Down to the Beach" ride. Yep, 10 Mile Fork is still closed, they wouldn't even let me walk through. Got home well after dark with 122 miles. Link below. #14

Today, I had to go to my monthly meeting in Morehead city, again with gorgeous weather and, tailwind on the way down albeit nothing like yesterdays. I was hesitant about battling the wind for most of the return home when the hourly wind forecast caught my eye and predicted a 180 windshift around 3pm! There was just no way that could happen but, sure as Christmas, it did! It was still a little shifty on 101 but mostly tailwind - I was pretty darn happy about this!! Caught the 430 ferry at 432 as well which also never happens - they are usually punctual to the second but, I hauled knowing that at 430 in the afternoon, it was likely to be full and take a little longer to load. Bingo. Another killer ride. #15

Carol Beliveau does a Pamlico/Beaufort Century.
Hi Dave,
Hope you had a nice holiday. I got out on the road today, was not expecting the clouds to be as thick as they were nor the temps to be as cool as they were but that's ok, I dressed accordingly. Was kind of appropriate weather for the mood; my husband's dad suffered a massive stroke yesterday and died a couple of hours ago. We knew he was not going to make it and Rich was able to get to Florida to be with him before he passed. I could not go because of work and, honestly, I see too many people die as it is let alone family members. The next best place for me to be was on the road sorting out my thoughts and processing what was going on. Fortunately Rich and Craig (dad) had many family members around him but definitely not the way we planned to spend Easter. #16.
Thanks Dave, happier news next time, I promise! It may be a little while, however, as we are going to Houston on Thursday to support my son in his first full Iron Man and to see the grandkids!

Hiya!
Well, I promised good news the last time I submitted a ride...so the good news is I got out and rode today, managed 100. The bad news is it about killed me. The wind really blew up about 57 miles in, headwind of course, and my bum knee just would have none of it. Normally I put my nose down and just power on through but not today. I just got it done. Barely. Have an ortho appt on the 6th to figure out the plan on dealing with this torn meniscus, hopefully with a scope or whatever it takes ASAP afterwards. That puts me out of the century game for awhile but, it's all good. I am so thankful for all the riding and adventure that I have been able to partake in thus far that I have no business complaining. None. This is just a setback after all, right?? See ya soon, hoping to see more centuries being posted by others!! #17 of 2019.

Hi Dave!
IdiditIdiditIdidit!!! Today I’m 2 weeks post op from my knee scope and managed to pull off 101 miles! I honestly thought that there was just NO way as my knee had been pretty much just shutting down at around 20 easy miles. That is, until today! I did get the miles in but sheesh, they weren’t fast or powerful. It was a long day in the heat and I stayed close so I could ice my knee between laps and, in case I had to pull the plug. Did two runs to the Hobucken bridge and back, one 39 mile loop up to Aurora-Hobucken and another 1/2 Hobucken run. I put the hammer down (sorta) for the last 10 miles. Garmin was up to its old tricks and trashed my first 22.6 miles so I had to manually upload that. I did have a screenshot of my LiveTrack, however. Ugh. All good!! #18 of 2019.
Thanks! Hope you are well,

Carol Beliveau does 100 on the Florida
Coast
Hiya!
Got out on the road for a long one today - the knee is making progress, I still can't go as hard as I want but it's only been a month - I have to keep reminding myself of this. On today's very hot Florida ride, I did not stop to ice the knee at all, had 50 miles of headwind and a few large bridges to climb. I can still walk tonight so I think we're on the right track. Had to keep reminding myself not to go too hard or we would be SAG-ing in and that's never ok. No flats, no rain but the heat is nuts, I don't miss the Florida heat at all and can't wait to get back to NC in a couple of weeks. My husband and I are here for work, we are now running and managing a private 90' "megayacht" (but it's small in the realm of megayachts!) that we picked up in Nassau on the 7th. I have stepped away from nursing for now - a good thing. Boat will be in River Dunes in Oriental in early July if all goes well. #19 of 2019.

Hi Dave,
Hope this finds you well. Sorry you are having trouble with the website, let me know if there is anything I can help with, I have some tech connected people if you think moving everything to another carrier might be worthwhile. Just let me know.
So we are still in Florida at least for another week or so. Man it's hot here. For some reason I decided that a century was necessary yesterday (something to do with needing 85 miles to meet my weekly goal, perhaps?) and that I should start it at around 2:30 in the afternoon. I get points for smart, right?? Yes, it was hot and miserable and really not fun but goal met, darnit. The knee still has a mind of her own and got really, really sore at about 60 miles in but I pushed though. Speed is still not what it was pre-op but we're getting there. I miss NC riding and can't wait to get home. #20 of 2019.
Thanks for everything, Carol Beliveau 6/23/2019

Hi Dave,
Sorry for not getting back you sooner, life has been a bit chaotic but good. You had asked for a little detail about our new career, here it is. My husband Rich has known the new owners of the vessel Aura for some time. We are now managing her - a 90' Ocean Alexander Sky Lounge - she was purchased last month. It has been a slow and ongoing process for many months, but most good things are, right? We are still in Palm Beach living on Aura, where the boat was purchased (actually we met them in Nassau and came over with it last month) and is having a lot of warranty work done to the engines and systems. The boat was running great (still is) but the owner and we figured since there is so much available here in Palm Beach by way of marine services that we should make it like new down here rather than from Pamlico County. So we are. We should be back in River Dunes where she will stay a good part of the year by the end of the month. November we head back to Palm Beach, the Bahamas and wherever else they want to go. In the summer, we will take her north, exploring as much of the eastern seaboard as we can including into Canada. She is a beautiful and comfortable vessel and as skeptical as I was about this huge life change, the more we negotiated, the more I realized there was no way we could turn it down. I can't say I'm sad to leave the ER now but time will tell. I doubt it will happen. We just had the owners (a couple) on board for a few days, this was her first time seeing the vessel and she was pretty excited and is looking forward to really making it hers. He was just thrilled too and hated to leave. Makes Rich and I feel that much better about things.
So! yesterday I did a century, headed south with the intention of riding from North Palm to Port Everglades, just about 56 miles one way. The headwind was awful and I still just don't have my original power back yet since the knee surgery 8 weeks ago. It's coming back slowly though. A1A really is not a horrible place to ride, there are straight, long stretches but you really have to watch the drivers...I almost got taken out by a guy from Virginia. I stopped to "educate" him about not turning right in front of bikes please and his response was "I'm from Virginia, we don't have bike lanes there!". I wanted to choke him but kindly asked him to please keep an eye out as there are bikes all over the place here. Ugg. Anyway, got about 40 miles in and found the road was closed for construction, no if's and's or but's and no reasonable detour. I was about sick of headwind by then and holy moly the heat. Turned around and cruised back making up the remaining miles closer to the boat. #21 of 2019.
Thanks again, Carol Beliveau 7/11/2019

Hi Dave,
Glad to hear you are feeling better, sorry they couldn't do the ablation, however. Dr Parks is amazing, you could not be in better hands.
We are finally home! Got in last Sunday with M/Y Aura to River Dunes and wow does it feel good, missed this place something fierce.
Headed out to BikeFest in Hillsborough yesterday, a ride that Carole Stanton introduced me to years ago and one that I keep going back to. It's a perfect ride with rolling, Piedmont terrain, no super crazy climbs, quiet roads and phenom rest stops. This seemed like a great ride to re-introduce my kneed into a bit of climbing. Definitely not my fastest work but it was good to be there and turning the cranks. Knee did ok, it was sore from riding one of my other bikes on Thursday that I had not ridden since before surgery. My husband Rich came along this year but was not registered and did 40 miles on his own.
Almost forgot! This makes 60 months of riding at least one century. Cannot believe I've been doing this madness for 5 years!

MID ATLANTIC 12/24
in Washington NC
Hello Sir!
So Saturday I headed to a long time favorite ride of mine; the Mid Atlantic 12/24. This would be my longest ride by far since knee surgery in May. I wasn’t really sure how it would go but had low expectations. Good thing as I was only able to struggle thru 7 of the 12 hours that I signed up for. 128 slow miles. Frustrating but the most miles I’ve done since surgery. I would have expected recovery to have been further along by now, probably should check in w Wheatley soon. Regardless, it was an amazing day and the team I ride with, RRT4G, cleaned up w overall and AG wins. Very proud. This makes #23 for me this year. You’ll be hearing from A couple other locals too I expect.
Hope all is well w you and Marilee.

Hi Dave,
It's been a while since I've done a century. In fact the last one I did (which was in May) I think I forgot to send to you. I've wanted to do a century for a while, it's just not worked out. Until today. Yay Marcy Mills, Bridget Curlin, Henry Beckwith and Dustin Edsall and I left from Food Lion in Bridgeton and cycled over to Oriental, cruised through River Dunes, then headed up to Aurora and back to Bridgeton. It was an absolute beautiful day which made our ride really nice!
I loved the picture of you and Marilee by the way. And I love that you still get out and ride every day, quite impressive.
I'm sorry I still don't know how to send you the info from Garmin Connect.

Below is a note from Carol Beliveau that arrived late : dw
Hi Dave,
As promised, my links from the weekend are below. Hopefully they work without trouble for you.
As everyone knows, the Bike MS ride was cancelled, sadly, because of Dorian. Fortunately for almost everyone around, it was pretty much a non-event save for the inconvenience of light debris and short power outages. I know everyone is so, so thankful. Because of the mild result, many of us decided to give it a go anyway. 15 or 16 of us headed out from Atomic Cycles and had a fantastic ride. We were able to get provisions at the usual places, everything was open, the roads were mostly very clear and the weather was perfect albeit deceivingly hot. I personally cycled in to Atomic from my house in Bayboro along with another newer rider/resident from Oriental who completed her very first century. (she may never ride with us again! hahaha!) We cycled in with the intent of modifying our route so that we could end up at my home with 100 and not have to mess with driving. Done. I believe, Chuck Forrest, Dunlap, Tom Hewitt, Bobby Canady, Natalie Mollahan, and a couple others did 100.
Sunday I decided (mistakenly) to ride locally again from my home since it looked like no one from Saturday was interested in a full century. It wasn't fun, I was solo and it seemed I had headwind most of the day not to mention fatigue from Saturday. Should have cycled in again making up the extra miles on the journey to and from home. Oh well, it's not easy living with MS every single day, right? I kept that in mind while I was working hard. My amazing husband was kind enough, however, to meet me in Hobucken and motor pace me the last 10 miles home. Instant attitude adjustment!
#'s 24 and 25 of 2019 done.

Carol Beliveau does a solo Pamlico/Beaufort County Century
Thursday I about killed myself on a solo century - well I did see Chuck Lee for a few short miles - but the wind was unfavorable most of the day and my bike did not treat me well. I had another flat (worn out tires, plain and simple but new in June!) which was the worst kind because I was riding harder than I should have and finally realized my tire was losing air. Better to have the Boom Flat kind, in my book. Anyway, fixed it, my co2 was a little finegaly leaving the tire softer than I like but I thought it was fine. As the ride progressed I was getting really tired and thought I was just having an off day. Got home, just beat and decided to check the pressure in the rear tire - 25 psi!! OOPS! No wonder I could barely move yesterday! Wasn't expecting a strong ride today but luckily I got just that. #26

2019 Cotton Country Century in Greenville.
Hello Sir,
Been a busy week! Two more centuries to add to the pile; today was the Cotton Country Century that is held annually around this time of year in Greenville by the EC Velo folks. There was a great turn out compared to last year post Florence. About 100 or so folks showed up from all over NC, some incredibly fast (not me!) and some there to enjoy the scenery. I'm somewhere in between but did manage to finish first out of the women that rode 100. Honestly though, I'm not sure how many women signed up for 100, I only saw one other. There were many for the shorter distances, I was sad when we parted ways! Ended up with a 20.9 average. You'll be hearing from Chuck Forrest, Tom Hewitt, Bobby Canady, Jim Hinckley and his son Brent, Paul Tingle, Pat Williams and a few other locals but not sure if they are NBCC members.

Hi Dave,
Completed my 6th century this month yesterday. Haven't done that many in a month in awhile! Rode mostly solo save for about 30 with a new local rider, she will be getting stronger in a hurry but I think I might have tired her out a bit, she called me Satan upon our departure! I haven't laughed that hard in awhile. It was a good ride with beautiful weather although the predicted low and west wind wasn't quite that for most of my ride, it seemed I had an annoying headwind all day. Ah well, I wanted training miles, right? #29 of 2018 for a total of 230!
Thanks Dave and I'll send you links under separate cover.

Carol Beliveau does another Century just 3 days after another one..\
I did another century today, my 7th in a little over 2 weeks at race pace. I'm getting tired! A gorgeous day out there but once again got beat by the wind. Luckily it was mostly light but from the east. Lot's of critters including turkeys, pigs and a very dead bear which I found quite sad. I'm hoping it was hit by an 18 wheeler because if not, the drivers surely would have been hurt, it was not pretty and like I said, quite sad. Anyway, I'm looking forward to some taper work! #30 of 2018. Oh yes, I'm 52 now, have been since July. ;)
Thanks Dave, I'll send the Garmin link under separate cover.

Carol Beliveau does 444 mile
NATCHEZ444
ride for 4 Centurys.
Hi Dave,
I have been working my butt off for the last several weeks in prep for the Natchez444 - a mega, non-stop ride down the entire length of the Natchez Trace Parkway that runs from Nashville, TN to Natchez MS and, obviously, is 444 miles long. Promoter states 16k+ of climbing which didn't seem like alot over that distance but... The registration allows only 30 entrants including teams and tandems and I had signed up early in the year, way before the knee and the new job. I came *this close* to forfeiting my registration but just couldn't "quit". So, I called up my favorite coach and crew member and got busy: And an extra shot of steroid in the knee! It worked, I rode strong and hard, maybe too strong for the first 200 miles as I pretty well blew up for the rest and had many moments of wanting to DNF, especially around 0400 when the one woman that I came to beat passed me like I was standing still. Anyway, I didn't, I wouldn't let me and my crew wouldn't have any of it. Seana Hogan is just strong, period. She has won RAAM 6 times, maybe more so I guess I need to work harder! Managed a 2nd solo female finish by HOURS, there were only 5 women, one did quit, 2 came in late, late at night and then there was Seana and I. I am "RAAM Qualified" again but I don't see that happening for many reasons. The ride was direct follow for 99% of the ride with my crew of Marc Poland and my husband Rich Beliveau directly behind me in a very well lit van for the duration. They saved me a ton of time by passing bottles, nutrition and supplies the entire time while rolling as well as expediting my infrequent stops. Sleep time; 10 minutes. Ride time was 24:36, official time including stops was 26:35. Centuries number 31-34 of 2019, total of 235 for the year.
Thanks Dave, Carol Beliveau 10/8/2019
Another Century for
Carol Beliveau. (#236)
Hi Dave,
Well since Suddenlink was up, I thought it was my obligation to send you something to write about. Only realized it went back down afterwards! Sorry you're having so much trouble with them. There are surely other options but I have no idea how to go about getting everything set up. I bet someone here does. Anyway...
Rode number 35 of 2019 this year (236 total) right here in Pamlico and Beaufort counties. Did half of it with a new local named Natalie but then about half way in she began to feel ill, called her husband and went home. I promise I didn't do it! ;) ;) I did take off pretty hard afterwards tho. We started out in pouring rain, it cleared up for awhile and then I got totally dumped on alone at about mile 70 - could barely see the road in front of me and the drops were coming down so hard they hurt. Ah well, it eventually stopped. Passed Chuck Forrest in Aurora going the other way - he was on a long ride too. Lots of headwind but isn't there always out here?! Came across a cool Halloween ghoul too, below is a pic.
Thanks Dave, good luck with Suddenlink

Carol makes a Century out of
Flythe's Hell & Back Ride
Hi Dave,
Headed out to Flythe's Hell and Back ride that started in Trenton at the Big Game brewery with the longest route being 43 miles. Wellll...I started in down town New Bern along with Chuck Lee in order to snag 100. It was a gorgeous if not a bit brisk day with a pretty good turn out. There were probably 40-50 riders. I tried to recruit more folks from the area but didn't have much luck. I came up a few miles short by the time we returned to New Bern but knocked out the remainder on the Atomic route and ended up at just barely a sub 5 hour century. Chuck Lee did about 95 miles I think. #36 of the year, 237 total. Here's the link.
Thanks Dave, Carol Beliveau 11/2/2019
Carol Beliveau does a North-South Century on Florida coast.
Howdy Sir,
Sorry to hear you continue to have troubles with Suddenlink... very frustrating.
We're back in Florida for a few months - not terribly excited about that but it is what it is. The temps are MUCH more tolerable this time of year, however. Got out today after hopping down the coast on the boat we are managing. I got some rides in on the way down; Charleston, Savannah and a short one on St. Simons Island but this is my first century in a few weeks. Did the familiar north route on A1A from North Palm to Fort Pierce and back. There were tons of bikes out and low traffic (for here) which, I know is related to the holiday and weekend but I'll take what I can get! Now, the question is, will I hit 10,000 miles for the year..? I'm at 9,074 so it's entirely within reach but that's a long month. Stay tuned! #37 of 2019.

Carol Beliveau does another Pamlico/Beafort county loop.
Hello Sir. Glad to hear Suddenlink is working for you finally again, what a headache.
In my quest to make 10,000 miles this year I headed out for a century yesterday. It was brutal. I haven't suffered like this in some time. Not sure if it was because of having mostly headwind all day, the finicky temps or the dampness. Or all the above. Anyway, I did the Fondeaux route, mostly solo, did ride with Chuck Lee for about 25 miles, a much appreciated break. We have been in Florida for the last few days so wanted to rack up as many miles as I could here as the roads are soooo much better here than in Florida. Mission accomplished, #38 of the year and month #64 of consecutive centuries.
Have a great Christmas if I don't talk to you before then (I will!) Carol Beliveau 12/8/2019
Carol Beliveau does another Florida Century, this time westward from the
coast
Hi Dave,
Knocked out #39 of the year yesterday here in Florida. Getting a bit weary of A1A so have been hunting out new routes. yesterdays was quite nice but holy moly the wind was ridiculous. Now if only I had some others to ride with, I mean I love riding solo but this is getting ridiculous! Hope you had a great Christmas and that all is well!

Carol Beliveau does last century in 2019 on Florida Coast.
Hi Dave,
Well, I couldn't end the year on an odd number so yesterday I completed my 40th and last century of 2019. It was a fun and fast ride heading north up A1A, starting in North Palm Beach and ending in Melbourne - an area I'd never been to before. Gorgeous beaches and busy with tourists. I can't say enough about riding that stretch of A1A on a bike, it was pretty fantastic with a wide, smooth bike lane, few stops and reasonable traffic. I have also been riding my "new to me" time trial bike - my first - which is wicked fast. I should have bought one years ago!! Yes I had tailwind all day but still managed a 21.6 average with a time of 4:37. Wheeee! This was our last day of relaxation before the owners of the boat that we work on come into town on the 2nd so we took advantage of it. Rich, my amazing husband, offered to pick me up wherever, an offer I can never refuse!
Thanks Dave, see you next year! Carol Beliveau 12/29/2019.
Carol Beliveau does first Century in 2020 on Florida Coast.
Hi Dave,
Hope your new year is going well thus far. We are still in Florida and will be until the end of March. I usually don't whine but the riding here is miserable, so scary and dangerous - I won't be banging out the as I usually do, sadly. With that, I rode my first century of the year on Monday and did not enjoy one second of it primarily because of the traffic. It's a strange feeling disliking road riding so much but I know this setback is temporary. I had to do it though, as I'm still on a streak, this was my 65th month. On a lighter note, there is fantastic gravel riding around here which I have been taking some advantage of but it won't result in the mileage that I'm used to. All good! Count my blessings, right??
Talk soon, Carol Beliveau 1/27/2020
Ed Busch does a 78th Birthday solo Century.
Dave,
A bit late, but I did a solo Century+ (105 miles) on March 8 for my 78th birthday.

Dave,
Not sure if you're still posting these rides. If you are, here's my latest century ride. Most of the ride was in Loudoun County VA.
I hope you and your family are doing well.

Carol Beliveau does her 5th Century of 2020.
Hi Dave,
Hope this finds you both well.
Knocked out another century today - sort of, kind of trying to make a habit of the Sunday Century thing but not putting myself under any pressure. Last night I sent out a few feelers to friends and got a couple of bites - Chuck Lee joined me for all but the last 15 or so miles along with local rider Sara Delamar who rode for 50. We wandered up and around deep Beaufort County and Pamlico completing a couple of big loops. Not much to report other than almost perfect riding weather with a deep cloud cover and only a couple of sprinkles of rain. No dogs, flats, wrecks or drama - kinda nice!! #5 of 2020.
Oh and by the way... I'm 53 now.
Thanks Dave, Carol Beliveau

Great to hear from you and, from what I can tell in the pic, you look terrific, all things considered. Hope you are hanging in there and do what the PT folks tell you to do even if it hurts. But don't overdo it. ;)
Rode a century yesterday, actually 175 miles before we ran out of real estate (Union Point) and daylight. I was done at 175 anyway and this was the longest ride this year for me which is strange considering it's September. No complaints! Anyway, a few friends from the Winston Salem area decided to do their otherwise cancelled Tanglewood MS ride anyway (as I think the New Bern folks are scheming for the weekend of the 26th) departing from Clemmons at 0400 yesterday morning and making a beeline for New Bern, 240 miles away. I managed to recruit only one other crazy to ride with me so off we went from New Bern with NO intention of riding as far as we did. We got about 85 miles west, almost to I-95 when we started to question just how far west we wanted to go but knowing they had to be close. Right about then, the 6 of them appeared, we did a U turn and took off with them straight into the headwind. Good times. 21.4 average on the way out, 20.5 by the time I finished. I jumped in the SAG (husband Rich) at 10 Mile Fork and 17, they went on to Union Point. I really don't like that stretch of road and chose to skip that last 12 miles. An awesome ride but tired today even after my 45 mile "recovery" ride this morning!! #6 of 2020.
Thanks Dave, keep getting better and let me know if I can do anything for you. Carol Beliveau 9/13/2020
