1. Minor changes to the Joseph Preston 1824-1892 (Sarah Eldred) page. These Prestons started in New England and went to New York, Michigan, Kansas, Nebraska and California.
2. Added 89 more Individual Prestons to the New England Prestons from the Samuel Preston Page, descendants of Othniel Preston Jr., and also descendants of Joseph Preston, Jr. son of Joseph and Ruth Ann Hyde.

1. Added a Java Applet for a Perpetual Calendar. Want to know the day of the week you were born, or perhaps, was the massacre at Draper's Meadow on July 8th, 1755, really a Sunday morning ? Check it out. Also made some format changes on the Intro page.
2. Added three more Java Applets (just for the fun of learning to use them) which are linked only from my Home Page. The applets include a winter scene with snow, a fireworks display and a sunset over water.
3. Made a few minor changes in the "Welcome to the Preston Page".
4. Added a few more SURNAMES to the Southwest Virginia List Data Base.
5. Starting to work on some additional information on the Bedford Prestons, supplied by Amber Richardson.

1. Recounted INDIVIDUALS Listed with the following results:
   Total PRESTONS - 1595 (Largest group of these is Bedford (includes Georgia Prestons) with 499. Second largest group of Prestons is the New England group with 481.

   The number of all other INDIVIDUALS listed is 4580. The largest group would be RHEA with 390.

   Therefore the total of all INDIVIDUALS is 6175, and this still is not complete. Some whole pages have not been included. Also, TINSLEY is not complete, haven't decided which way to go with these ancestors.

1. Well I did it... last night between 1 AM and 3 AM I moved 3 of my main pages to LCC from iAmerica and the rest (about 250 pages) are now at Fortune City. Of course they are all linked together (I hope) so you may not realize they are on two different providers. Could have lots of problems with links so please let me know. I will be checking also but many pages to check.

1. It looks like December will be a lost month. My local provider, iAmerica, decided to pull out of Lufkin so I am changing to lcc.net which means shuffling pages around. Worst of all, I had 5 megs of space on iAmerica and will only have 1 meg on LCC.NET. Therefore, most of my stuff will go to FORTUNE CITY. May have a nightmare with the links before I'm through...Bear with me.

1. Added a page on the descendants of DANIEL GAINES. Information taken from "The Gaines Place" which is linked on the page. Daniel Gaines is a brother of my ancestor Francis Gaines.
2. Added some info on Rootweb email list on my Other Home Pages of Interest page....(linked from the Genealogy Links section). Found some people are not aware of the roots web lists. These may have 20 or 30 subscribers or as in the case of the Southwest Virginia group, more than 400. When you subscribe and send a message it goes to the whole group...likewise, anything any of them send out will come to you... you will probably trash 95% of the mail but it is still a good way to find some answers.

1. Posted 5 requests for help on the BULLETIN BOARD. Some of these have very little data...the more you can supply as far as names, dates and places, the better the chances. Some of these were looking for PRESTONs in OREGON, Western NEW YORK, PA, and New England.

1. Haven't done much...starting a Maryland Preston page and was just given some more data on Georgia Prestons..apparently not related to the Walton Co., GA Prestons.
2. Still need to add the GAINES, CAMM, GARLICK and other Individuals to my list of Individuals...
3. Part of the Site Fight, Knights of the Ring etc. stuff is a turkey hunt...people hide turkeys in their site and the person who finds the most turkeys wins... I volunteered to hide one in my site so if you see some strange turkeys or comments about them, that is what is going on.
4. Made some changes to my Awards page....only have two dinky awards but dressing up the page.

1. Fixed a problem with background color of SW VA Surname pages...people with IE 3.02 or earlier were getting grey pages which made the blue links hard to see. Netscape 3 or higher or IE 4.0 or higher showed white backgrounds.

3. Added another request for help on the BULLETIN BOARD page.

1. Changes made to the GAINES page. And new pages related to the Gaines family were added. These include a page on SPINDLE, not much data, a page on CAMM and one on GARLICK. All linked to each other and the Gaines page. Individuals not yet added.
2. Added a note of interest (especially to Smithfield Prestons) on Fort Kilmakronen (Fort Thompson) near Bristol. Abp (?) of the Southwest Virginia Rootsweb List posted this. It is located under the PEOPLE/STORIES link.
3. Revised the page showing links to Individuals, Pages and Surnames. Linked from the Individuals Icon at the bottom of many pages.
4. Enlarged the Tinsley coat of arms so the motto was legible.
5. Still have much more data to add to GARLICK page and probably to CAMM page.

1. You would think I have been sitting on my duff...and I have. Lots of things going on...finally got through to Fortune City and updated my main page there. Added a SURNAME list as a service to the SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA ROOTS WEB. About 1500 (wish someone would count and let me know, don't believe my word count) Surnames with a email address for person researching that name.

Already added 32 new names and corrected 5 email addresses to SW Surname List. Does anyone know of an easy way to change these email addresses to a hyperlink ??

2. Am entering a SITE Competition sponsered by Fortune City, called Site Fights. Would like your vote but not sure how you do it.. click on one of the Site Fite gifs and maybe you can find out.

I didn't like the idea of having to get Crescendo to listen to someone elses music myself, but finally gave in and then got mad because I couldn't delete it.. found out it is easy, go to Control Panel (win95 or 98) and use Add/Remove Software. When downloading Crescendo make sure you get the right one, have one for Netscape and one for IE, both free. I use both since I have to check my site once in awhile with IE...ugh..

1. I recently came into possession of a letter written by my father when he was 8 years old, 1900, which proved Jennie Preston was married to T. J. Newman in 1900 and living in Bristol. Also found a WILL for Jennie Preston Newman. This was significant to me and to the Newmans since their records only showed T. J. Newman married Alda Roper. T. J.'s son Carol Montgomery Newman had four children, one of whom was named James Preston Newman. The remaining question is when did Jennie Preston marry Thomas James Newman--apparently sometime between 1876 and 1900 in Bristol, VA/TN. The WILL is included under DOCUMENTS. Includes references to TILLAR, BAILEY, BYARS, PRICE and my father and grandfather SEATON and J. B. PRESTON.
2. Total SURNAMES linked on these pages is now 1150.
