EURE - John Riddick Eure, 63, a native of Gates County, died Sunday in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
A graveside service was conducted Tuesday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Vern Gilmer and the Rev. Joseph Buck. Memorial donations may be made to Gates County Rescue Squad or Eure Volunteer Fire Department.
Eure had retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. He was a former member of Hall Ruritan Club.

EURE - Mrs. Fruzzie Eure Evans, 61, died Sunday night in Norfolk General Hospital.
A native of Gates County, She was the wife of Jesse Russell Evans and a daughter of
Mills H. and Mrs. Janet Crawford Eure.
She was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church.
Besides her husband, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Nichols of Ahoskie and Mrs. Juliet Williams of Winton; four sons, Ronnie Evans, of Winton, Clinton Evans of Murfreesboro, Carter Evans of Suffolk and Jesse R. Evans Jr. of Franklin, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Odell Hedgeoeth of Eure, 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchidlren.

Raleigh Eure, Tarheel Owner, Dies at 50
EURE - Raleigh McKinley (Gramp) Eure, 50, owner of Gramp's Barbecue at Tarheel and Gates County Ice and Coal Co. in Gatesville, died suddenly in his home early Friday morning.
A Gates County native, he was a son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Eure and a member of Eure's Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Doughtie Eure; three daughters, Mrs. Jackie Cozart of Knightdale, MRs. Polly Preston and Miss Paige Eure, both of Eure; five sisters, Mrs. Thomas Mise, Mrs. Jasper Turner, Mrs. Ocie Howell and Mrs. Carey Eason, all of Gates County, and Mrs. Claude Foutz of Great Bridge; four brothers, Robert Eure, Cecil Eure, Woodie Eure and Lloyd Eure, all of Gates County.
A funeral service was held Saturday in Eure's Christian Church by the Rev. Bill Traylor and Dr. R. E. Brittle.

Cleamon Eure Sr. Succumbs Friday
EURE - Cleamon Edgar Eure Sr., 59, of Eure died Friday in a hospital.
A native of Gates County, he was the husband of Mrs. Amy Howell Eure and a son of Daniel Richard and Mrs. Mary Lillie Eure.
He was a farmer and a member of Eure Christian Church.
Besides his wife, surviving are two sons, Cleamon E. Eure of Clinton and Victor B. Eure of Eure; a daughter, Mrs. Maryland Harrell of Gates; three brothers,
Joseph L. Eure and Daniel R. Eure of Suffolk; five sisters, Mrs. Henry Tiland of Winton, Mrs. Clyde Barden of Franklin, Va., Mrs. Jean W. White and Mrs. Dade Langston of Gates, and Mrs. A. J. Harrell Jr. of Plattsburg, N. Y.; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Bill Traylor.

Death Comes Five Days Apart
To Mr. And Mrs. Tazwell Eure
Gatesville - Tazewell Eure, 79, one of Gates County's most influential citizens, died Tuesday night after an illness of several years.
Funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Christian church at Eure. Burial was in the family cemetery at the home.
The father of present North Carolina Secretary of State
Thad Eure, Mr. Eure was founder and longtime president of the Tarheel Bank and Trust Company of Gatesville, which now has branches in Winton and Lewiston.
He was also active politically, and served as Gates County representative in the General Assembly sessions of 1925 and 1927.
Death came to Eure one day after his 79th birthday, and in the same room in which he was born in 1875.
Eure is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Johnson Eure, and by three sons and three daughters. Besides Secretary of State Eure, another son, Tazewell Eure of Gatesville, is in public office. He is Register of Deeds of Gates County. Another son, Dr. Darden J. Eure, is a physician in Morehead City.
His daughters are Mrs. Etheleen Eure Cochran of Hamlet, Mrs. Adminta Eure Coeyman of Greensboro, and Mrs. Louise Eure Artz, wife of Gates County Farm Agent John Artz.
The bank that Eure founded is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. He founded the bank at 29 in 1904.
Expressions of sympathy came in from many state leaders in both banking and political circles, and important state officials and friends were expected to be on hand for the funeral. Former Governor W. Kerr Scott paid his respects in a visit Wednesday.

Eure - Mrs. Lucie Johnson Eure, 68, widow of Tazewell A. Eure, died in Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va.; at 10:50 Sunday.
Mrs. Eure's death came less than a week after that of her husband, banker and former Gates County legislator who died Tuesday at his home near here.
Mrs. Eure was the stepmother of Thad Eure, North Carolina's Secretary of State who was preparing to return to his Raleigh office when he learned of Mrs. Eure's death.
Mrs. Eure is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Adminta Eure Coeyman of Greensboro, and two step-daughters, MRs. Ethleen Eure Cochran of Hamlet and Mrs. Louise Eure Artz of Gatesville; two stepsons, Tazewell D. Eure, register of deeds for Gates County, and Dr. Darden J. Eure of Morehead City; two brothers, Percy O. Johnson of Suffolk, Va., and A. M. Johnson of Eure; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral and burial services identical to those held Thursday for her husband will be held Monday (today) for Mrs. Eure.
The rites will be held at 3 p.m. at Eure's Christian Church with burial to follow in the family cemetery where Mr. Eure was buried. Officiating will be the Rev. R. E. Brittle, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Walter Moose of Gatesville Baptist Church, the Rev. J. M. Jolliff, retired Methodist minister of Gatesville.
The body will lie in state at the church two hours before the funeral.

PULASKI, Va. - Dr. Lee Brinkley Eure Sr., 43, a native of Gates County, died Monday.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial will be in Gatesville Cemetery. Eure was a family practitioner and was a partner in Family Physicians of Pulaski. He had received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel HIll and had recently been inducted as a Fellow for the American Academy of Family Practioners. He was a member of the Virginia Medical Association and Eure Christian Church in Eure.

Quinton Eure Jr. Rites Saturday
EURE - Quinton Robert Eure Jr., 69, died early Thursday in McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond after an illness of three weeks.
He was a son of
Quinton R. Eure and Mrs. Missouri Umphlette Eure and the husband of Mrs. Sallie Early Eure.
He was a retured farmer and a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church. He served in the Army in France during World War I.
Besides his wife, surviving are four daughters, Mrs. A. R. Tinkham, Mrs. C. W. Hudgins and Mrs. L. P. Harrell of Eure and Mrs. R. L. Cowan of Suffolk; two sons, Andrew Q. Eure of Winton and Stephen E. Eure of Churchland, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. S. E. Piland of Cofield, Mrs. N. T. Felton of Eure and Mrs. M. E. Umphlette of Gates; a brother, C. B. Eure of Eure; and 14 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the paster, the Rev. J. A. Beukema. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Daniel D. Eure
WINTON - Daniel David Eure, 72, died Thursday morning in his home after a short illness.
A native of Gates County, he was the husband of Mrs.
Lillie Mae Owens Eure and a son of Spencer and Mrs, Emma Eure.
He was a retired carpenter.
Besides his widow, surviving are a son Spencer V. Eure of Martinsville, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. T. J. Askew and Mrs. C. B. Eure of Winton and Mrs. J. M. Rountree of Gatesville; a sister, Mrs. Emma Smith of Winton; a halfbrother, Andrew Eure of Washington; four half sisters, Mrs. Daisy Odell and Mrs. Nettie Durham of Eden and Mrs. Francis Wade and Grace Hodges of Danville, Va.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church with burial in the church cemtery.
