The Academic Recovery and Career Discovery Center faculty use teaching methods based on current cognitive research: new learning is shaped by the learner's prior knowledge; much learning occurs through social interaction; learning is closely tied to particular situations and successful learning involves the use of numerous strategies. The faculty also use multiple resources such as texts, newspapers, computers, and materials to engage learners in complex life skill tasks. They also use a variety of strategies to accelerate the student mastery of core subjects. Finally, the faculty participate in intensive staff development in the use of learning styles and strategies, quality principles and tools, technology, conflict and behavior modification.
