Since 1970, over 20,000 students have been served by the Caddo Parish School District alternative school programs.

1970-71 First "School Away fromSchool" opened at 1144 Texas Avenue (downtown in an old school board warehouse, presently the 911 building).
1972-73 Opened two satellite branches for pregnant high school students - Missouri Avenue and Corbitt Street, both previous neighborhood libraries.
1974-75 Opened three more satellite branches for students with behavior problems - a Linwood Avenue service station converted to function as a school, the Cooper Road Day Care Center converted to a school, and a site at the Rutherford House for adjudicated students.
1979-80 Missouri Avenue site housed middle school pregnant student program.
1980-81 Opened site in Vivian (north end of the parish).
1983-84 Middle school opened for students with behavior problems.
1984-85 Name changed to J.B. Harville Middle/High School
1986-87 High School pregnant girls program moved toSpeech Center on Hearne Avenue. Warehouse building was condemned.
1991-92 Students redistributed to Hamilton Terrace Adult Learning Center and Oak Terrace Special School campuses.

Added Family Crisis Center for female wards of the court.

Added Juvenile Detention Center
1992-93 Oak Terrace Special School and J.B. HarvileMIddle/High School consolidated and named Oak Terrace/J.B. Harville Alternative School
1994-95 Sites for pregnant students closed and moved to Oak Terrace/J.B. Harville Alternative School campus.
1996-97 Temporarily housed Elementary Expulsion Center.
1997-98 Elementary Expulsion Center relocated.

Louisiana's first Middle School Day Boot Camp housed at Oak Terrace.
1999-00 Housed Truancy Program on Oak Terrace/J.B.Harville Alternative School campus.
2000-01 Behavior Modification Unit established.

Caddo Parish School Board doubled Boot Camp capacity.

Rutherford House and Juvenile Detention Center became a separate school site.
2001-02 Middle level Short-Term Suspension Center added.

Vivian site closed.

Hosston site opened with alternative program, Project Lift, GED, andShort Term Suspension Center.

I.A.E.S. Middle School added.
2002-03 Elementary Expulsion program established.

Elementary Alternative School program established.

After School Learning Center opened.
2003 Summer Enrichment Program established.
2003-04 Hosston Alternative School becomes a separate site.
2004 Summer Enrichment Program expanded.
2004-05 Rutherford House and Juvenile Detention Center programs included under Oak Terrace/J.B. Harville Alternative School umbrella.
2009-10 Oak Terrace site relocated to Ingersoll Elementary, renamed Academic Recovery and Career Discovery Center.

Overage student and Transition (8.5) student programs added.
